My World Market order was cancelled (that's a story for the BP!) so I am looking for another dining set. It must be able to withstand a lot of kids, homework, projects, as well as.. dining with messy eaters ;) Even though my kids are 7 and above, the mess never ends! This is basically the center of our household!

I had posted about the chairs themselves and got some ideas but would welcome more. I was thinking of leather or microfiber for those. Would a wooden table be inviting disaster? The one from WM was naturally uneven and speckled, so I thought that would hide the damage :ROTFLMAO:

I love the way some of the SD tables have pop out extension leaves!

I love this one. Is it inviting disaster?

Sorry, no advice, my DD is only 10 m/o and I'm not an expert in child-friendly furniture yet.. just wanted to say that I will be following your thread.

Love the tables you chose btw!

We're looking at this from Crate & Barrel

as a formal dining room table - i.e. no everyday use and no arts/crafts. Though I should say that there won't be a 5 lb lock on the dining room doors so anything can happen :)

We have a stainless steel one, and love it! Wooden legs, stainless top!

We have one made from reclaimed wood, very antique looking. A few more scratches, etc go unnoticed!

We plan on getting a traditional wooden table once we redo our house. In order to make it kid-friendly and not always need a table pad or table cloth, we plan on getting a custom piece of glass to fit right over it. It'll protect the wood from messes/projects but it'll still show the beauty of the table!

Thanks! Great ideas!

I was thinking about this but we live in earthquake country, so glass makes me nervous :(

I really am annoyed with World Market at the moment, but their tables get great reviews, so I am also considering this one, the Tuscan:

but with some sort of leather chair instead.

We have a set from Ashley Furniture. I did no research before or since purchasing it 10 years ago, but it wasn't crazy expensive. The chairs feel sturdy, don't tip, have a padded bottom, and the table is solid. It has taken some abuse (toddler forks being jammed into it for a few years now in several spots) but it's still nice and pretty when cleaned. It is not this same model, but ours has very plain legs. http://www.ashleyfurniture.com/Showroom/LargeProductImage.aspx?PageId=Showroom&SetDomTab=1&ItemNo=D577-35

Check Pier One. I was there last week & saw a couple on display that caught my eye. One was the Carmichael, which had a distressed look to it -

They also have many chairs to choose from.

I looked high & low when we bought our kitchen table 3 yrs ago. I didn't find what I really wanted so I always pay attn to them, hoping to find THE one.

ETA: The Marchella was the other table. I thought the green base was a different spin:

You know.. I actually love the look of this one, but we need a large rectangular table so that wouldn't work :)

Doesn't it show scratches?

Yes, I am actually going there soon to look at their chairs so I look at the tables, also. Thanks for the tip.
