The president of DH's company is having a party at his home on Saturday night. DH had asked around and was told the attire was dressy casual. Well, DH just got an email today from the company president saying attire is cocktail. So, do I need to wear a dress or can I get away with a facy jacket with a black inset and black dressy slacks?

I'd go with the standard little black dress. Cocktail means fancy but not floor length.

I'd do a cocktail dress.

Another vote for a cocktail (knee length) dress.

I figured as much. Off I go to get some spanx. Now, would you wear a velvet cocktail dress (sleeveless) with a pashmina?

I'm sure that would be good.

Short, dressy dress. Suits. You should look as nice as black-tie, but dresses are knee length.

So velvet is fine, shawls are expected, heels are high.... ;) Have a great time!

I agree with cocktail . I'd totally wear a pashmina with a sleeveless dress.

ETA: now post a pic of the dress you're going to wear!
