Ds was invited to a joint birthday party for 2 kids in his class (this will be on a weekend outside of school). We have not spent any time with them outside of school, but I am pretty sure they are both spiderman fans and would love the things that typical 4 yr old boys like.

Any ideas on an inexpensive gift (as I will need to buy 2, one for each birthday boy).

thanks,

I posted this in Around the House, but have not had any responses.

I don't think you could go wrong with stomp rockets.

They Might Be Giants
"Here Comes Science" CD/DVD combo
$10 at amazon.com (down from $19)
http://www.amazon.com/Here-Comes-Science-Might-Giants/dp/B002FKZ4UO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1294989442&sr=8-2

Excellent CD, lots of cool educational stuff, fun for parents and kids - and it doesn't take up much space which most parents will appreciate. It's my go to gift for the 4-6 yr old set.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my son based on on Citymama's suggestion, and we love it! I also gave it to my neighbor's son for Christmas, and they love it, too. Thanks, Citymama!

That's what I was going to say. Fairly inexpensive depending on what price they are on Amazon (usually under $15 and as low as $8–9).

Hex bug nano - $8 at target. Buy a pack of extra batteries for $4 (available with the hex bugs in the toy aisle).

Very cool! Unfortunately, I was just at my Target today, and the clearance section is minimal with nothing good.

You've gotten a lot of great suggestions. Trio sets (they have smaller ones) have been a HUGE hit with DS2 for over a yr now, they are easier to build with than lego, but you can still make some awesome stuff. Also, basic science kits would be a good idea too. DS2 was only 4 when we started using them and he loved them.
