DS played so nicely with a friend's dollhouse that I'd like to buy him one, but I'd prefer it to not be too girly. I like the Playmobil Take Along Dollhouse, but I'm not ready to commit $50. Can you recommend a cheaper option? Thanks!

Not cheaper, but you might want to consider also the Playmobil 123 Dollhouse. (This is for your 2 year-old, right?)

We have one, though not exactly the current model, and my just-turned-3 year-old plays with it, as do older kids (my 6 year-old, recently the 7 year-old next door spent quite a while with it) so I don't think it's a "baby" toy, really.

It's nice because the pieces aren't as tiny, chokable, and breakable. Also a plus if you have a younger sibling around the house (don't have to guard the chokable pieces as much).

Duplo also makes a cute, but not inexpensive house set: http://duplo.lego.com/en-gb/Products/Family+House/5639.aspx

For $75 Amazon has this wooden furnished house - not a bad deal since it includes the furniture. http://www.amazon.com/Melissa-Doug-Deluxe-Furnished-Dollhouse/dp/B00006AG7D/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1295833345&sr=8-16

DD's speech therapist uses this one sometimes during sessions. I definitely recommend it.
