View Full Version : 1st Birthday - Owl Decor Help

OK, so I've told DH that I really want to throw DD a first birthday party and invite BOTH sides of the family, all the way up to great-grandparents (DD has 3 great-grandmothers and a great-grandfather who are still living)

Since she loves owls (really; this is very unusual for me to realize a 10-almost-11-month-old kid can have a definite "like") I want to do decorations in an owl theme, but I am getting really overwhelmed with trying to find things.

My sister had a catalog that had some ADORABLE party decor, but I have no idea what catalog it was or where to find anything ... and, since she thought I wasn't interested in it, she tossed the catalog. (Oops!)

I have until the 1st week of March to receive things, but would like to budget now because I'll also need to hire a venue (my house is simply not big enough to host everyone)

So, where do you start? I used Google a few weeks ago and got completely bogged down in details.

Please help!

Have you tried Etsy? Search "Owl birthday":
http://www.etsy.com/search_results.php?search_query=owl+birthday&search_type=handmade

I searched "owl" on this site and got this:
http://www.birthdayexpress.com/browse/_/N-i/Ntt-owl/results1.aspx

Perhaps the catalog was Oriental Trading? They have some cute owl things...

Thanks!

I saw a few of the Etsy things and almost ordered them in December.

Those are cute, but it wasn't Oriental Trading.

They had a whole party kit with a "look whooo's turning 1" kind of theme - plates, banners, pinata, etc. - and I didn't check to see what company it was.

DD's 3rd was "Bumbee is turning 3, everybody hug a tree." I made these cupcakes. Everyone LOVED them. They took forever, but were worth it!

Now I'm annoyed b/c I went to their sister store (b-day express) and searched "owl" and that didn't turn up. They should really work together more on those sites.

Super cute, btw!!

Those are adorable. =)

I haven't decided what to do cake-wise yet; I saw a how-to on making an owl cake (big) online at Parenting magazine's site, too. I may combine both decorating ideas (if I go the homemade route) to get enough cake to feed everybody; I just have to figure out what kind of cake.
