With all the snow, we have been baking chocolate chip cookies!

Any tips to make a big, huge cookie?

We tried a big cookie on my round pizza stone but the outside was getting too dark while the inside was still really mushy and not edible. We used the Nestle Toll House recipe and it says to set oven at 375 degrees.

Still was alot of fun to try and talk about how much fun it would be to eat a big cookie!

I haven't done it, but I would think it would work better to be a bit thinner (although that might make it break easier). And, like a pizza on the pizza stone, maybe make sure that your oven preheats for a long time - like 30 minutes, before baking, to make sure the stone is really hot?

I don't know anyone who has ever made this work. You could try them brownie style, and then decorate the top of that if you are just looking for a big flat area to decorate. The pan style really works so well on the nestle tollhouse recipe, I do that more often now than I do the regular kind.

Thanks for tips! Oven was on for a while for the cookies on the sheets but I did not preheat the pizza stone. That would have helped!!!

Fairy, bummer that you haven't heard of a successful circular cookie IRL! Wegmans sells them and we see them all the time there but wanted to try at home.

We will try again because the allure of the one big cookie is quite great here with DD!

Oh no, I know they exist. SOMEONE had to have succeeded ;-). But I've never known anyone who make it work.

I've been successful! I followed a recipe for chocolate chip cookie bars- meant to be cooked in a big pan- from the Mrs. Field's cookbook.

We don't add nuts b/c ds1 doesn't like them.

eta- I recently tried the recipe that came with my Target heart shaped cookie pan and they were awful! Dry and crumbly. Not that ou are likely to stumble across that recipe but just wanted to warn you. The recipe above is really good.

We've done it several times in pie tins and in round cake tins. Following a bar recipe or a chewey cookies recipe yeilds better results and make it easier to get out. (Which is a bummer for this crispy cookie lover!)

I would think you should try baking it at a lower temperature (325 maybe?) so it will bake more evenly.

:yeahthat:

I have made them in the snowman and christmas tree shape pans at christmas. they aren't too thick but I believe the temp is much lower and just cooks a bit longer. My mom used to make them on regular round pizza sheets all the time when we were younger for birthdays.

Good Luck!
