How to get rid of cigarette smell?

Someone gave me some great makeup cases, made of vinyl and plastic, but they have a cigarette smell to them. I aired them out for a month in the garage but the smell is still there. Of course I can't really put them out in the sun in this weather. How can I get rid of the smell?

Seal them in a ziploc bag with a dryer sheet for about a week. That has worked for fabric items for me and hopefully would work for the vinyl.

Can you soak them in vinegar and then air out? If that doesn't work toss them, I'm very sensitive to even the slightest smoke smell. I got some clothing from ebay that I had to toss because I hadn't asked if they were a non smoker. It came in a bag with a dryer sheet which only made it worse for me.
