Hi All,
Looking for some gift ideas for my DD's 1 year birthday this month. I did some research and was thinking about Howdy Cow? Any feedback? Thanks!

We have Rody (similar to Howdy) and he doesn't get alot of love from my 1 year old- mainly because it is not something he can do independently yet. If your DD is advanced in gross motor skill (DS is not walking yet) then maybe she will enjoy it more. That said we do love our Rody but more for 18 months/ 2 years +.

Other ideas-
FP Laugh and Learn House
Yokidoo Spout
Stacker
Wave Drum

We got DD1 the laugh and learn house for her 1st birthday and she's still giving it love, and she turns 3 this month.

She also got her first "real" baby doll, and the FP walker stroller, and the Green Toys tea set.
I also started a charm braclet for her. Every birthday I add a charm to it.

DD just had her first birthday and these were her favorite things:

Little People Happy Sounds Home (BY FAR). She has engaged in such a new kind of play since she got this. She really plays like a big kid! The plane is fun but not nearly as interesting. She really appreciates the extra people though.

Fisher Price Rumble & Learn Driver (steering wheel toy)

Basket of Blessings Board Book. I swear she looks at this book for 30 minutes at a time, everyday. She is mesmerized by it.

Sesame Street dolls - DD ADORES the Count for some reason!

ANY Elmo or Sesame Street board book.

Toy Story 3 DVD (and one and two, haha). I swear we watch them daily.

The fail items were some of the Leapfrog items - birthday cake lighted toy, magnetic farm toy. Maybe each kid is different because I know the reviews are great. The cake is cool because its smaller, but we just overdid it this year on leapfrog and she seems really bored with all of it except the Potsy Pot, which she really likes.

My son turned 1 in Sept, 15 mos at Xmas, his favorite gifts are:

Little tikes shopping cart
Plan Toys walker
P'kolino chair
Ukelele
Drum
Ambi trumpet
FP Toddler to Preschool Kitchen

ETA: He loves all of the FP Laugh & Learn toys. The piggy bank, cookie jar, storybook rhymes, learning kitchen have all been hits for quite awhile.

Amazon isn't working for me right now, I can try to edit and inc. links later!

Btw, he tried the Howdy Cow a couple weeks ago and couldn't stay on it at all. It was very tippy-1st try he fell over the head, then was falling to the sides, then fwd, bwd. It was both funny and sad.

Back to add some sort of walker wagon if your DD isn't walking yet- we have the radio flyer walker wagon.

Thanks for this thread! I have a Plan toy rocking horse that I got a deal on at Christmas on Amazon set aside. I was planning on the giant nesting rainbow deal from Magic Cabin, but now it is backordered past dd's birthday. She already has a walker wagon from Ikea.

You might check out the Battt Zany Zoo wooden activity cube. DD got it for Christmas and plays with it pretty often.

I am considering a ride on toy, but I'm not sure she will be able to use it right away. Also considering a sand table or box.

Instruments are a great suggestion, I still have ds' so we don't need any more.

Unit blocks are wonderful and grow with a child. Playsilks are also really nice.

We have the Howdy Cow and our LO (10mos) isn't really that into it right now. She like to pat it and stuff but not ride on it... I think she'll like it more down the road. But for now, it does serve as a great decoration and is fun to look at! It was on sale over Christmas at Amazon for around $25 and I couldn't pass it up.

I'm going to give her the Prince Lionheart Wheely Bug for her birthday... It was either that or the walker wagon, didnt want to get both and i figured she'd get more use out of the Wheely Bug. We also got the Leapfrog drum and Potsy for her birthday.

If you don't have them already, check out My Pal Violet and the Tek Nek Pony. :)

One more for the list--

http://www.amazon.com/Learning-Resources-Stack-Count-Layer/dp/B0015TI1UG

I picked this up during one of the Christmas sales and we've played with it almost daily since then. The cake edges make it easy to stack and it's also a lot of fun to roll the cake layers across the room. We have a couple nesting toys and this one is definitely the favorite.

This is also a great age for a toy kitchen. They're a little young for pretend play but as soon as they start walking they really like to open and close doors, put play food in and out of baskets, etc.

A plush rocking horse is a wonderful 1st birthday present. DD1 got one from grandma and she still plays with it at almost 5! I'm thinking a Haba walker wagon for DD2's first birthday.

I got my niece a shopping cart that looks like the ones at our local grocery store. It has been a huge hit. http://www.amazon.com/Little-Tikes-Cozy-Shopping-Yellow/dp/B003NW9O7M/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1297223334&sr=8-4

thanks for asking kim!

i've ordered her a rody eventhough she may be a little young. found it on craigslist.

she loves the bath so i ordered the yookidoo flow spout:

grandparents are getting her the Cozy Coupe.

Love the wheelybug too but she's got a walker toy.

I've got my eye on the cake stacking set too, but am going to wait for a sale.

I think she'll enjoy the Rody horse... like I said we have the Howdy cow and while she doesn't actually ride on it she still has some fun with it. That's great that you found it on CL too!

Let us know what she thinks about the spout... I've been eyeing that one too. I'm also watching my CL for a Cozy Coupe or something like that because it seems kids really love them.

Also, you might want to check out this:
http://amzn.com/B000LSZVJQ There are so many things you can do with that set and our almost 1 year old loves it and it's quite inexpensive.

I had my eye on those stack and roll cups and forgot about them. One of her favorite toys is the nesting cups I bought at a yard sale for 50 cents. I was just saying last night that I needed to get her another set.

I'm putting these on my list! Thanks again!
