Absentee bidding at a silent auction

How does it work? We can't make it to the auction but I was thinking of bidding on something but wonder how it works. The information states that the absentee bids would be sealed. So say there is a book I want and I'm willing to spend up to $25 for it. Do they start the bidding at $25 since they would have my bid for that amount or do they open the sealed bid at the end and I would win if no one else bid over $25? TIA

IME they start the bidding where ever the minimum bid is. They may have a pre-set minimum or may not. So you can put 'starting bid: $1 , maximum bid: $25' on your bid and see what happens.
