Looking at a crib that says it converts to a toddler bed and a day bed...and can't for the life of me picture a day bed...what are they talking about? Size?

it's a bed with a back on it. So basically when you convert out of the crib you take one of the long sides off and it's a day bed. We have one, right now we have the front off and the toddler rail up, to make it a day bed we would just take the toddler rail off.

here's a traditional day bed

A crib as a toddler bed has a rail - like this:

Here it is as a day bed. You often have to purchase a separate "conversion kit" to transform it. There is a small rail that has to be installed on the open side to stabilize it.

Thanks ladies. Our current crib says it turns into a toddler bed and I don't recall a rail across it (to keep toddler from falling, I think there's one to brace the bed - similar to a daybed).

So I think our current crib is more like a day bed...which is fine with me...I just couldn't figure out the difference.

My daughter's crib went from crib to daybed like that. It was a drop side crib (never once had issues with it), and we just took the front rail off. There were no other parts to attach or convert. At least not until turning it into a full sized bed, which we never did.

She LOVED her bed, as a crib and a daybed. She never fell out of it either. and we never did any kind of toddler rail. She was in that crib/daybed for 3.5 years, and probably would have been a little longer if we hadn't had to move into an apartment while our house was being built. I just bought her a cheapy toddler bed for the apartment and then bought a twin-over-full bunk bed for the new house.
