Cherry pie filling tastes like the can.

In my ever-increasing stress to make the perfect frakkin' cupcake, I now have an issue with the freaking filling. I'm making black forest cupcakes tomorrow. I grabbed just a small can of cherry pie filling from the store for my test batch. Well, the stuff tastes awful. Tinny. Like the can. Frak! It also has all manner of crap in it. Can somone recommend something that won't take me nine years to make? Maybe cherry flavored whipped cream instead to fill it? I dunno. I wanted the pie filling. But I want real food in there not the crap from that can. NOt to mention not to taste like can. Why am I doing this to myself.

I use EB Smith cherry pie filling. Is that sold in the US?

It will be fussier to make, but can you buy frozen cherries and make your own filling? I've never liked pre-made cherry filling, b/c I always think it tastes like the can and not like real cherries.
