View Full Version : Compact means COMPACT, your twerps!!!

This is unimportant but it's bugged me for a couple years.

Ok - I accept that some people feel the need for giant vehicles. Heck, I LOVE driving my dad's big 'ol pickup. But seriously ... if you decide to buy a huge SUV or giant family sedan ... DON'T PARK IN "COMPACT ONLY" SPOTS!!!!

Those are for ... wait for it ... COMPACT cars. That means, small cars. Like my Escort wagon. It implies that the spots are ... wait for it ... smaller. Your vehicle ... will NOT fit. It will take up three spots. It will also block all visibility so us law-abiding people risk our necks getting in and out.

Sorry. Sending love to all you SUV drivers. :love5: No hard feelings. I'm sure all BBBers park safely and sensibly.

This is all provoked by the parking garage at our medical center. There are two rows for compacts. All these twerps with giant cars park in that zone, taking up several spots. It's very annoying when you have a sick baby or a sick self and you have pass by all these wasted spots that are half filled by somebody's Exhibition. Grrrrr.

We watched our friends park their Sienna in a compact spot the other day. All I could do was roll my eyes. There were a gazillion other spaces and they didn't appear to be placed in a way that impeded anything, thankfully.

I'll admit to parking my husband's SUV in Compact spot on more than one occasion, but in all of these cases the spot was plenty big for an SUV. I have no idea why they were marked Compact. Maybe because they were not as huge as the other spots?

But I do not get people who park in two spots or very close to the line on either side. I think they are selfish and lazy.

I too have parked in compact spots in my Honda Pilot, but only when there are no other spots left at the parking garage at our medical center. Another thing that drives me up the wall is when people with handicapped placards park in the non handicapped spaces at the front of Target when there are handicapped parking spaces still available.

Oh I HEAR you!! Compact is for compact ONLY. And a big jeers to the parking lot design people for putting them in all over the place to short cut and get more spots in. They have to KNOW people are going to use them if there's nothing else, or nothing convenient.

ARGH.

I too have parked my crossover in a compact space on the top floor of our medical center when all other spots, besides handicapped, are taken and cursed the ridiculousness of having entire floors (four story garage) labeled "compact" when our city is SUV central or minivan central and my three children and car seats will not fit in a "compact" car. My car does not take up three spots, I park in the lines. I do not appreciate anyone, compact or otherwise, who doesn't know how to park and takes up more than their spot or is right on the line. But some of us do need our larger vehicles (I get better mileage than most compacts because it is a diesel!) and don't want to park in compact spots. Sorry you were inconvenienced.

A lot of the time I have found the non compact cars might fit side to side but the length of the car impedes making turns or navigating the parking lot.

The handicapped card people not using the handicapped spaces...perhaps the handicapped person isn't with them? Even though you aren't supposed to drive around with your tag (only supposed to hang it when parked, per the placard's instructions) some people keep them on full time.

I had to laugh (and was really tempted to take a picture) when I saw a HUMMER parked in a compact spot in the hospital parking garage on the way in for an NST when I was pregnant with DD2. I have no idea how anyone in that car or the cars on either side were able to open their doors.

I'm not sure on what planet someone would consider a Hummer a compact car!

I have a friend who has a Chrysler Pacifica and insists it is a compact car. It's a crossover SUV. It's an SUV body on a full sized sedan base. It might be more compact than a big SUV, but it's not a compact car!

My beef is with compact spots in the first place! Just design parking lots with decent parking spaces for crying out loud!

:yeahthat: and we own a compact car too, which our family can't fit in because we have a rear facing infant seat in it and both DH and I are above average height and need the seats pretty far back.

And I can get the Pilot in one of the compact spaces as long as they are long enough, which in most times they are.

No most of the time it's little old ladies. It's irritating esp. when I have two kids in tow and am trying to get in and out of Target at 5 pm on a weeknight, and there are no spaces up close.

Now, now ladies, please be kind to the parking lot designers! Sometimes they are tasked with providing a certain number of compact spaces (or percentage of compact spaces) because of local codes and laws. Sometimes clients will insist on a certain number of spots and won't be swayed any other way (and if you/your firm doesn't design to their specifications some one else will). At least that is some of the things I ran into when designing parking lots in a former profession and it's not always the stupid designer! :)

Now, I will admit that I live in an area where compact spaces are fairly uncommon and usually limited to a few for convenience or specific locations where a normal sized space won't fit, but a compact will. So this isn't a huge problem for me.

I live in San Francisco. They are aallll compact spaces. :ROTFLMAO: That is why I refuse to drive our Ford Flex unless I am leaving the city.
