The nearest one is 3 hrs. away. I'm going there this weekend with a couple of friends in an Explorer. So I can't get anything too big. I know I want to get a small Expedit (4 cube) for holding DS' toys. What other small storage solutions and things for children should I look for?

play food
play kitchen supplies (pots and pans, dishes, etc)
they have great baskets and boxes, I would look up expedit online to see the different options
my DC love the tent I got there for like $10

Since you are looking for smaller items, I just picked up 6 of these so I can put 3 each in DS1 and DD's bedrooms near their bed for the books that accumulate on their nightstands.

Small spice rack that can be used as a forward facing bookshelf of sorts. We didn't hang ours yet as I need to paint the kids' rooms and want to paint the shelves on a warmer day before hanging them.

Sets of plastic plates and cups (all are #plastic)

We have a play table with chairs form Ikea, it takes little space in the trunk: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40153859 and the matching chairs

Pop-up toy bins

If you have an easel for the kids they have replacement paper rolls for cheap

We have a small rug/ play mat for DS's room: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20101871

Non-kid items I always get:
Picture frames
pillow covers, throws to change up our family room decor a bit
Bins/baskets for the Expedit

Bibs, we have long sleeve ones that are great
Baby wash clothes with little loops on the end. Great for wiping hands, faces and table after meals
Night lights. Love the spooka night lights

Love the Trofast storage system (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80063673) (just remember that the storage bins are not located with the actual system anymore in the pick up area, they are in another part of the warehouse--ran around the entire warehouse looking for them and then realized I had already passed them up). Both of our girls have them, and we love them.

Bead toy (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80014041)
Spice Jars (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40064702)
large storage jar (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/06130000)
pasta/cereal container (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90166736)

Accessories. Pictures, frames, candles, vases...

I also like their kid's bowls and plates.

Swedish meatballs and sauce- for sure! We served them at ds2's b-day party and they were a big, big hit!
