View Full Version : Anyone want to talk about Easter baskets?

Yes, I am already thinking about Easter baskets. We don't do a lot of candy so I have to think of things!

So here is what I have thought of so far for dd, who will be 1

Pat the Bunny book
Socks
Spoons
Suction bowl
Bubbles

And for ds, who will be 7

Sidewalk paint (credit to the Etsy thread in the Lounge!)
Sock (seeing a trend?)
Bey blades (though I'm going to wait as this fad may behave passed by then)
Books
Some kind of art supplies?

For anyone who doesn't already have them, playsilks are great for Easter baskets.

What are you planning?

Me me! I love making Easter baskets.

My boys (4 and 6) are each getting:

1. A grabber claw

http://www.amazon.com/Toysmith-6130-12-Robot-Claw/dp/B000F4G5KK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1298045348&sr=8-2

I originally bought these grabber things for xmas stockings, but realized they had too much already in there. I think they will love them, and who knows, they might make "clean up time" fun.

2. A Scooby Doo DVD from the $5 section at Target (they are really into Scooby lately!)

3. A small Lego figure that I found on clearance at the Lego Store.

My 6 year old will get a white chocolate Easter bunny, he loves those... my 4 year old doesn't like candy that much, so I found him a hexbug nano on clearance. He does like suckers, maybe I'll find some sort of Bunny lollipop and throw it in there.

My baby will be around 10 months.... so I'll probably just put some small practical things in there that she needs, like pacifiers, socks, bibs, a sippy cup

i need to get running errands, but MEMEMEMEME! i'll be following this thread. easter is MY favorite holiday...we throw a big brunch/egg hunt and i start planning months ahead, like most people do with christmas ;) i love the season, the whole thing. lovelovelove

my child gets a little more than "basket" which i try to justify with her christmas birthday. this year she was already getting a moses basket for her baby dolls, but then i decided she had to have the playmobil church (she's obsessed) and as that is a little too expensive to be an "everyday" gift, she's getting that for easter (seemed appropriate). of course she'll get "normal" stuffers (already picked up some new socks, hairbows, etc.)....i fear the "tally" when i'm done... last year practically looked like santa came. *sigh*

I'm easing off of Easter. We usually spend about $50/ kid (often on 1 big toy and maybe some little stuff + candy). This year, one small toy and candy.

DD is getting a new Snap n Style doll and maybe this Little People set (if they offer a FS before now and then) http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=900002&e=storeproduct&pid=48163&section=pop_lp_holiday and some sort of eastery toy I find (I'm hoping I can find the PM eggs at a locel B&M store.)
DS is getting a green light saber, a star wars lego and some easter eggs with hot wheels in them I got on sale after last easter
I always buy both kids a See's chocolate bunny and the "gourmet jelly beans" from TJs. (DH always eats them ;)

Yay! I am trying to find cute things that can be used outdoors, since Easter will (hopefully) coincide with the beginning of nicer weather here. So far I have a cute beach/sand toy bucket set (thought we could take it to our local playground, which has a huge sandbox, then to the beach this summer) and a cute bathing suit/rashguard/hat set (not really a gift for DS, but it looks cute and takes up some space, LOL).

I also want to pick up a cute bubble blower thingie that I saw at Target the other day, and I like your idea for sidewalk chalk and am going to steal it!

I stopped by Claire's a few weeks ago and all their Hello Kitty stuff was on 75% clearance. My 4 y.o. DD LOVES Hello Kitty and she loves Claire's. She wears a headband or clip every day. I bought her a Hello Kitty headband and Hello Kitty bedroom slippers. Those will go in the basket.

Everything else in the basket will likely be purchased off a Target trip. :) My 7 year old also likes Beyblades and he is super in to Pokemon.

One year I found sidewalk chalk shaped like eggs--can't remember where but you might look for it. :)

Maybe I could add some sunblock to the baby's basket as filler. . . .

DD and DS are each getting:

One small Toy Story figure
One Circo (or Play Wonder?) wooden food set - the kind in a tube, from xmas clearance
Pez Dispenser
chapstick
a couple of those flowers from the $1 section at Target
some jelly beans and a chocolate rabbit (maybe one or two other treats if I have a weak moment in the candy aisle ;))
A couple hair doo-dads for DD
DD is excited about the paper stuffing in the basket, since they spread it throughout the entire room last year. DH instigated - and cleaned it up - so I'm OK with that :)

Just found out recently that BIL, SIL and 8-month old DNephew will be here for Easter so I have to think of some things to go into his basket too. A couple board books maybe?

I bought some Easter stuff at last year's after Easter Target clearance, including a stuffed bunny for DD, and a little people Easter set for DS. I'll probably get some bubbles, balls, side walk chalk, and a bit of candy for both DC. I'll probably get both new swimsuits, and sunglasses and put them in the baskets. I like to really fill their baskets, so I'll probably get a few more small things for each. Oh, and hair accessories for DD.

So far I have a set of Series 1 Lego Minifigures, I plan on using to fill the eggs for the egg hunt. And I have 2 big Playmobil eggs, I got on clearance. I will probably get him a chocolate bunny, a few jelly beans, some little chocolate eggs and that is about it. Maybe a small Lego set or something else in the basket. Haven't decided.

For Easters past:

For DS first Easter basket this book. Which he loved. And playsilks and a snack trap.

Snack trap. That's a good idea.

Our playsilks are older ds's and I have no idea where I got them, it has been years. There are some etsy sellers. . . . . My baby uses them for peekaboo and just generally pulls them out of their basket and carts them around. And ds, at 7, still, uses them as props in his imaginary play. So they have been really worth it around here.

I just realized a few weeks ago that Easter is right before DD's birthday so I'm debating on what to do.

I do have a Lego Easter Bunny set that I got on clearance over the summer. http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=40005-1

I'll probably include Tangled on DVD or BluRay, some candy and maybe some other smaller lego sets or My Little Pony or something like that.

Awwww guys! I thought we were talking Easter BASKETS. Cause I'm good with finding the filler, but I need the basket part. Last year I waited too long to buy the PBK felt ones, and this year they have Peter Rabbit on the felt ones and I just don't like them. I haven't found any plain ones on Ebay either.

So if you guys have ideas on cute baskets, hit me up!!

Sorry! My kids' baskets both came from Pottery Barn. We have the biiiiggg wicker ones with personalized liners. I actually like older ds's better as it is plainer. DD's has Peter Rabbit on it, which is okay, but not as classic, IMO. I know some people on here have used personalized LLBean totes in lieu of baskets and there is an LLBean code on the bargains forum right now.

Still a work in progress, but here are some things I am considering.

Ideas for Easter baskets (I prefer items that can be reused for storage)
Lined baskets from Michael's are always an option

http://www.etsy.com/shop/monkeyseeboutique?section_id=5322160
http://www.etsy.com/shop/brodyandma
http://www.etsy.com/shop/diddledesign

Fillers for baskets
Fabric balloon balls from one of these sellers for all 3 DC:
http://www.etsy.com/shop/Cottonbees
http://www.etsy.com/shop/SDKdesigns?section_id=5871245
http://www.etsy.com/shop/KerrysCrafts?section_id=5442070

Felt food for DD2 perhaps from one of these sellers:
http://www.etsy.com/shop/bugnikdesigns
http://www.etsy.com/shop/SugarChicBaby?section_id=5005783
http://www.etsy.com/shop/Creativetouches1

Headbands for DD1 possibly from one of these sellers:
http://www.etsy.com/shop/SugarChicBaby?section_id=5088242
http://www.etsy.com/shop/PinkGasoline?section_id=5684896

I love this bracelet for my girls, but it is a bit over budget for Easter: http://www.etsy.com/listing/29146461/hand-stamped-child-bangle-for

Last year, I did a crayon roll for DD2 that I really liked from this seller: http://www.etsy.com/shop/MomNMiaQuilts/search?search_query=crayon&search_type=user_shop_ttt_id_5190829&shopname=MomNMiaQuilts

Well I want to compare party notes! We do an egg hunt too...but I've never done it with a brunch. We usually do it Easter Day afternoon....about 16 kids and parents...cupcakes, punch and a few other snacks.

This year I want to do a bigger party. I'd love to hear what you do...when (weekend before?)...do you divide by age groups? And I definitely need egg stuffing ideas. How many eggs per kid do you figure?

We use them year round for toy and books and then leave them out for the EB. I never got any liners. I like that they can always use them for something even past EB age. DD has pink but it looks like they don't have it online. Maybe in the store? I didn't like the way the honey looked so DS had espresso.

those williams-sonoma steif bunny & chick are SO cute... i saw them the other day and thought the same thing "is this too much for an easter basket?"

esp. since i had already decided to go with this IKEA bunny this year (if my store ever gets it back in!!!!!):
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40185662

after declaring myself "done" i ordered piggy paint sets from TCP this morning... tsktsk. the "main thing" was supposed to be a mose's basket from american girl, but i also bought a playmobil church. then of course i'll get a chocolate bunny, some sort of book...etcetc. i should do a "full tally" so i officially STOP. (i know i have fun socks, playmobil big eggs, etcetc)

for our party we do brunch (tons of breakfast food & traditional ham dinner stuff... plus champagne punch) and then the egg hunt. we live in a townhome -- so i send the daddies (and our non-daddy friend steve) out with bags and bags of eggs to hide in the park a block away (we've had good success with this strategy, knock on wood). i've stuffed with various things over the years as the kids have gotten older (they started out as all only's so they are all right aroudn the same age) -- when we had the party in grad school (and no one had babies) we'd hid mostly candy, and do adult prizes (chocolate liquor, candles, soap, chocolate bunny, whatever seemed "springy" and "fun") i do prizes for the kids too... we done different ways of making this "fair" but honestly, i always have so much stuff that nobody leaves emptyhanded.

i also find little bunnies every year to send home with each kiddo-- i'm doing IKEA this year for that too (the bunny):
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60145477

sometimes we do egg dying, sometimes NO. we'll only do that if we can do it outside though...so it's weather dependent. kiddo has requested a "craft" this year, which i think we might do since we're going with the loose theme of "bunnies & butterflies"-- and butterflies lend themselves to easy crafts (i'm thinking of coffee filter & pipe cleaner ones). i noticed the craft stores were full of butterflies, and then noticed that target's dollar spot was hitting the butterfly/bug stuff hard. we maybe did a little splurge the other day-- butterfly headbands (for our little girls), some green bunny headbands for our baby boys (there are 3 of those now...), bug catchers/and magnifying necklaces, and butterfly nets that will double as decor. i always seem to fall prey to the headbands in the dollar spot...it makes for great pictures, even if the adults where them after the kids get bored (fun for dressup later too)

we have the party the saturday before easter now, and it seems to work out for even our friends who have in town family... when we were in graduate school and our friends all lived away from family, we did easter day. that was how it started and seemed to work best for everyone.

pp who was interested-- i can send you more details if you want (menu, the stuffers i did last year?) we don't have TONS of people and we thoroughly spoil our guests... it's my favorite day of the year. it's seriously like my reverse birthday!

For DD
Barbie and Ken Made for Each Other (she asked for this at Christmas and was so disappointed when it didn't come). http://gifts.barnesandnoble.com/Toys-games/Toy-Story-3-MADE-FOR-EACH-OTHER-Gift-Set/e/027084820034

Hello Kitty headband (Claire's clearance)
Hello Kitty bedroom slippers (Claire's clearance)

I want to make her a crayon roll and will round out the basket with some candy and small knick-knacks from Target.

eta: I saw the Hello Kitty necklace on etsy a few weeks ago and added it to my favorites. The seller later sent me a message with a discount code for 10% off. So try that first if you like the necklace. :)

No idea for DS but I'm sure it will be something involving pokemon or beyblades.

I'm still looking for cool baskets for my older sons, filling them won't be a problem (chocolate, jelly beans, socks, lego's, book, sheet music, baseball etc.) but I need something to put the gifts in, something that can be used for years, and is suitable for (teen)boys.
The best thing would be if the baskets came in different colors (of different color liners) so I could buy one for each of my children (for a 'clean look' on the easter table)

Ok, I am ready to get down to business on the Easter Baskets. Haven't even given it a thought yet, so I'm going to read this whole thread.

Anyone give DH a basket? My friend mentioned doing it and putting some of his favorite beer and candy, etc. I thought it was cute and I think I will do it, however, I'm afraid that it might wind up like Christmas stockings which is basically me going to a lot of trouble making something for everyone then feeling sad that no one gives me anything (ok, yes, maybe I need to grow up!)

I *heart* Easter and have yet to make our baskets. Every year I just get a $1 bucket at Walmart or Target and fill. My kids always drag their loot around for the following week so to get a nice basket and take it away to keep fir next yr would be a bummer to them.

My plan:

Beyblades
Lego minifigure
Each DS got a book from this weeks book fair at school that they don't know about

My mom just left to go oversea and won't be here for Easter but already got a couple things that will go in a small basket from her

Im not doing any candy because MIL goes OVERBOARD on the Easter candy every year.

I generally go crazy and spend so much, but I'm keeping it low key this yr.

My wedding anniversary is the Sat before so dh will get an Easter/Anniversary gift...a waffle maker...he wants it and who am I to stop him from making me waffles?!

If I can find some mini pillow pets I'm gonna throw those in too...ds3 will get a big one since he's still in the stuffy age.

melaine-- i do a basket for all three of us-- lucy, DH & myself ;)

DH is getting:
hersheys' cookies and creme bunnies (it's little ones in a 5 or so pack...they used to have this in a big bunny but i haven't seen that one in a few years)

a dvd season of "pinky and the brain"

a little music box that plays "greensleeves" (he loves that song and i think he'll really like the sentimentality :)

maybe some easter peeps stuffed bunnies..a joke since DH HATES peeps! (but loves stuffed animals... really, i've never seen anyone who can "play" with stuffies like DH ...that isn't , uh, a kid ;)

an easter hexbug (thanks whoever first posted about those!!! i just wished i'd know about them before i sent my package to my niece & nephew)

me:

some super bright fancy chalk (yes, i wanted this!)

little lamb (couldn't resist it but lucy requested a "bunny")

a split bottle of pierre joet champagne (i LOVE champagne but seldom splurge on the real
deal for myself since i'm the only drinker in the house)

some frou-frou rubber gloves with flowers on them

fair trade fabric hair barrette i bought at the baltimore museum of art

Lucy's "basket" is a complete show. next year i'm VOWING to get ahold of myself since easter should NOT be christmas. in her basket, she'll get a little candy, a bunny we fell for at the art museum, a windup music box of "twinkle twinkle" (he favorite song), some hair clippies (very similar to my free trade one but a different style), the same chalk i got for myself.... i have a bunch of "other" stuff (an embarassing bunch of other stuff), but i'll probably save it for just because throughout the summer. the main reason easter is sorta overboard is because i'm going to give lu the Playmobil church. Lu loves churches. i've never seen a child so ga-ga for churches in my life. i also have a few books-- the new kevin henkes rabbit book, a book of "recipes" for dolls, and elsa beskow's "the sun egg"-- she'll definitely get those, even though it's another case of "too much."

oh ! she's also getting a wooden easter egg commemorating this years White house easter egg roll since we got into the lottery :):):)

my issue this year is instead of easter grass i decided to grow REAL grass in our baskets. it's really adorable, but has it's share of "issues" :) one being- how do i put the stuff in them without a disaster? we'll see.

a book of "recipes" for dolls,

This is a super great "recipe" book that I bought for my daughter
many years ago.
Someone here on the BBB recommended it. It is called, "Mud Pies
and Other Recipes: A Cookbook for Dolls" by Marjorie Winslow.

This book has been used A LOT by my daughter over the years!!
