View Full Version : Is 1 year old too soon for a music set?

I've been looking at some of the music sets (band in a box) that come with a drum, tambourine, shakers etc. Do you guys think 1 is too soon for something like this or is it better saved for a later birthday?

My DS is only 3.5 months so obviously he can't really manipulate the instruments himself but he LOVES watching me shake the maracas, play the drum, etc...We have this set:

It's colorful and fun!

Loving it so far! Since your LO is older, he should easily be able to manipulate the instruments...

That is exactly the one I was looking at... Looks like it would be pretty fun and I think Target has it locally for only $20. Thanks! I think I might get it.

Nope, its a great thing for that age and will be used for many years.

i'm not familiar with music sets, but i know my 13mo DS loves playing with shakers, banging on things etc. in my OBs office there was a toy xylophone in the waiting room and i remember my DS loved playing with it.

Ditto on the Parum Pum Drum. I gave it to DS for Christmas, and he loves it. I had looked at instrument sets from Melissa & Doug and Hohner, but the one from Target was cuter...and cheaper.:) It's pretty good quality and he plays with it all the time. Unfortunately he likes to stand on the drum, but fortunately, it's sturdy. I think 1 yrs. old is a great age for it.

Not at all!! We got DS a nice music set right around 10 months and he loved it. Shakers, drum, etc. I personally like real instruments rather than toy ones though.

Thanks everybody! I found this at Target today and it was on sale for $17.99. Looks like a great set.

DS got that set for Christmas (he was 11mos then), he loves it!
