Jello in Nordic ware please help!

I made jello in the bug mold yesterday and could not get it out of the pan. I stuck it in hot water but apparently for too long and the bugs turned all liquidy. Is there a sure fire method to getting jello out of a detailed mold? My son was in total tears after waiting 4 hours for the jello to set.

Did you spray the mold with Pam (or similar) first? I think that helps the removal process.
