I saw another thread about this in the Nursery section

We use the sleep sheep

http://www.amazon.com/Cloud-Sleep-Sheep-Soothing-Sounds/dp/B000GKWA66/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1299106783&sr=8-1

We took the unit out of the stuffed animal though and just use that. It makes 4 sounds: heart beat, rain, ocean and whale. Our baby only likes the ocean noise but it calms him down in no time. We carry around extra batteries just for that.

I downloaded a track on itunes called Natural White Noise for Babies, and just play that in the nursery on my ipod speaker dock.

We use this one and have been happy with it:

It's nice that it is small enough to travel with too. That way since it's a sound he's used to we are able to replicate it wherever we go.

We use the waterfall sound.

We have this one also. I like the rain sound but DS sleeps better with the ocean sound. We take it along (in the car) on road trips so he gets a full night's sleep instead of bits and pieces.

I bought this Homedics Sound Spa online at Kohls and it was really cheap which drew me to it! It works great, has a choice of several sounds, you can use it pllugged in or with batteries. You can let it run all night, which I do, or you can set a timer.
Here is the link on amazon, it's $19 right now:

We have a Marpac white noise machine which is great. We also use the CD called SoundSleep for Babies by SoundScience sometimes, and it really soothes our baby.

There is seriously no better white noise machine than the Sleepmate! :) We have two and even take one when we travel.

Another Marpac Sleepmate fan here! We have two (one in our room and one in DS2's room) and we also take one with us when we travel. I even convinced my mom to get one! I've recommended it to all my doula and nanny clients.

we have a cheap one from BBB in DC's room. It was $20 before a 20% coupon. they are both 4 years old and work well. it has 4 sounds but the 'waterfall' is the one that sounds like white noise.

Another vote for Marpac! We have one in our room and one in DS2's room. For DS1 I had a Sharper Image machine which broke once and had to be replaced. He's hooked on the ocean waves, otherwise he'd have a Marpac for his room.

We travel with our Marpac, too. It's a little heavy and bulky, but so great for muffling noise in hotel rooms.

I have the Marpac in the baby's room (it really downs out noise well) and the Homemedics ones in the other two kids rooms.

We started out with the sleep sheep, but after a night when it ran out of batteries in the middle of the night and I couldn't manage to find a screwdriver and replace them, we use a radio tuned to static...

We have this one - Homedics SoundSpa Lullaby
http://www.walmart.com/ip/HoMedics-SoundSpa-Lullaby-With-Picture-Projection/5913225?sourceid=1500000000000007346330&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=5913225
I bought mine at BB&B with a coupon and we've been using the same one for the last 2+ years! I used to have it on waves but now I do rain and it's turned up pretty loud to drown out DH's diesel truck, phone constantly ringing and other things...my house is soo not soundproof!
