View Full Version : Which ride on?

Mom and Dad have offered to buy dd a ride on toy for her 1st birthday. I think in the $30-40 range or less would be good.

I know kids love the cozy coupe, but, in addition to being a bit over budget, we have storage issues so I am thinking something smaller.

I am not a fan of batteries or things that make electronic noises. I'd rather have something simple (and not particularly girly).

DD already has an Ikea walker wagon, a regular radio flyer wagon and is getting a rocking horse for her birthday.

Suggestions please?

Thank you!
Catherine

ETA. I should probably say that dd is walking and is a bit on the tall side.

We have an older version of this one it is is great for a small space. It is really sturdy and has lasted through 4 kids (my nieces) and I'll use it for DD2 when she is ready.
DD1 LOVES her Cozy coupe (and she is very big) so it doesn't get used anymore. It think it was best during the 12-24 month range.

what about something fun like the Wahoo? It could be indoor only or indoor/outdoor.

We got DD a Schwinn roadster for her 2nd birthday- you could look at something like that- it has an adjustable seat.....I have seen some prices lower.

I was going to recommend this one. We have it and both of my kids love it! It is also pretty small so it is easy to tuck away in a closet.

We have this: http://www.amazon.com/Playskool-Step-Start-Walk-Ride/dp/B00004T2WP/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1299173403&sr=8-1

DD really likes it. She doesn't ride on it yet, but she likes to push it around and loves to play with the spinners on the front.

We have this one and DD didn't use it as long as I would have thought. She's tall and once she was done pushing it around and wanted to ride on it she was too tall. So it was just a push toy for us.

She did get this one when she was 1.5 and used it much more as a ride-on. It does have some sound, but you can turn it off and it's not too anoying compared to some stuff. Also easy to store.

We have the Little Tikes one (they no longer make it) that is similar to the Fisher Price one you posted and DD1 honestly didn't use it much at all until she was 2 yrs. old. When DD1 was about 18 mos. old we went to a playdate and she didn't want to get out of the Step 2 Push Car (http://www.amazon.com/Step2-Push-Around-Buggy-Red/dp/B00000IZEM/ref=sr_1_13?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1299189588&sr=1-13), she loved it. I don't know how well that would work in SF, but she loved it and used it at playdates until she found the Plasma Car at 2.

The wheely bug is totally awesome but costs a little more. The wheels roll in every direction so it's more fun (at least the twins think so). They started out kneeling and pushing it... Now they ride like speed demons. It also looks nice so storage isn't as much of an issue

Wow, that's the same one I had for my older kids ages ago! Glad to see they still make it. Catherine, definite .

We have this Chicco train (the old green version which I think was nicer) and love it, although it is a little over $40.

Hmm, now that is interesting. I like the idea of a compartment. My parents' total budget for dd's birthday is higher than $40, I just am hard pressed to go for a ride on toy over that, given that it will probably mostly live outside in the fog and rain. . . .

Thanks again for the feedback everyone! I'm going to go through these this weekend and suggest one to my parents. (Who will almost certainly get whatever I suggest.)

Our friend gave us the Step2 Push Around Buggy. My son likes it, but the hard plastic wheels are very loud on the pavement. It is hard to have a conversation when we are pushing the Step2 around. :( Moreover, it is so loud that my husband is really concerned about the noise affecting my son's hearing. We are still debating on whether to keep it, return or sell it.

It will be nice if there is something like the Step2, but with rubber wheels and is not so loud.

I've been looking at that one and have been holding off on getting it because I read review talking about how loud the wheels were on sidewalks and pavement. I'm trying to find a good alternative for short pushes around the neighborhood/culdesac etc.
