School fundraiser--food, dancing, auction, etc. and the dress is described as "Hollywood casual"???? I have no idea what this means. Not 100% certain we will go but I definitely won't go if I can't find anything ok to wear. Help!

I hate creative attire wordings like that. I really think they are impolite. They just confuse people. What in the world is Hollywood Casual???

What kind of school is it? (Pre-school, college, well-heeled private, crunchy elementary) This might make a difference.

I'd probably wear a cute but not too dressy dress with boots or cute shoes. I guess something you feel nice in and can dance in but still technically casual?

I would take that to mean pretty much anything goes so long as it's casual. Jeans and nice sweater, slacks and sweater, casual dress with boots - whatever you're comfortable in.

I'd go in a funky cardi layered over a t-shirt (or a dressy cardi layered over a funky tee), dark skinny jeans (if you can pull them off), fun shoes. Don't forget your sunglasses and a great bag:)

My first thought was dark jeans and some sort of dressy top (something sparkly or maybe a drapey sort of fabric)

I agree, dark jeans and a cute, hip top. Of course a casual little black dress could work as long as it's funky, not frumpy.

I always get the feeling that "Hollywood" style means something different outside of LA (my former town!)

BTW, they win for most obnoxious made up dress code. I mean what's the point of that sort of thing?

Wow, that's a funny dress code wording. I agree with pp's about the nice top and dark jeans/fun shoes/boots.

Maybe some inspiration in the gossip magazines - like what Jen Anniston, Rachel Bilson, Lauren Conrad or pick your fave would wear around town. Could be anything from boho maxi dress (Nicole Richie) to skinny cargos +tank + high heels. Something trendy I would say but not a cocktail dress.

And I agree it's rude to impose this if you don't explain it better (and it's not something everyone thinks of in the same way)
