DD, almost 3, desperately wants an umbrella. I debating whether I should just go for cute or practical. any umbrellas that do both for a kid her age?

Lula has had several, from a Land's End (DH bought her FULL PRICE $18. I flipped.) to a Dora one from Payless. Honestly, she's so rough on them that I preferred the Dora one. It takes her a few months to break them, but break them she does. One thing I really liked about the cheap one was that it had round balls on the tips of the ribs. So it was harder to poke out her/my/the dog's eye. Not hard, really. But harder. ;)

Kids that young are so tiny that any umbrella is practical. It will cover them. I wouldn't spend a lot on one, and would look for big round balls on the tips.

We have this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Kidorable-Purple-Elephant-Child-Umbrella/dp/B00346CPJG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1299904006&sr=8-1

and one from Old Navy for DD (~3.5) and one from Target (it was with the kites and jump ropes, etc.) for DS. It was ~$3-4 on clearance at the end of summer one year.

Thanks for the advice. I will take a look at the Target selection. She will be oh so happy if I find something with Dora on it!

We bought a Totes compact umbrella for Jack at the Totes outlet. It was $8- and I don't feel foolish if I have to use it. It's green...and he loves it.
