I just heard that a friend of a friend is jogging with her 5 month old and has been since he was a couple of months old. I know that is a big no-no but I haven't been able to find a link to an article spelling it out.
Anyone know where to look?

I never found any. When DS was a baby I worked in a medical library and did some searching and I didn't find a single article about the hazards of jogging with a young baby. The AAP has no official position on this (or didn't a few years ago).

IME, pushing an appropriate, air-tire stroller over smooth pavement does not subject the baby to much, if any, jostling. Check with your ped for guidance.

I'm sure this post will be ripped to shreds, but that's what I found (or didn't).

I've never heard anything like that. Why would it matter? So long as the baby had an appropriate stroller with support and shock absorption.

My youngest is 6 so it's been a few years since I was researching strollers and proper use etc. I seem to remember that it was dangerous for an infant to be propped up -sitting position because there wasn't adequate neck support.

Back then, most joggers didn't allow you to recline the seat all the way, but I think you can find that feature in joggers now and also infant seat adapters/ add-ons so that a baby is properly supported and comfortable.

I think it's because a child can be jostled around when jogging/running, much more than just walking. I've heard some people liken it to shaking a baby. I can't really find much research on this. Do you know what kind of stroller she has? Maybe the manufacture has age guidelines, like BOB does.

From Consumer Reports: "The appropriate minimum age for a child to ride in a jogging stroller is a matter of debate. Most manufacturers suggest a child should be 8 weeks old or older, but our medical consultants say that a baby should be at least 6 months old, able to sit up, and have some head support to withstand the potentially jarring ride. Some jogging strollers are made to accommodate the youngest babies, but that doesn't mean you should sprint with your newborn. Brisk walks are a better idea."

From the BOB website: "BOB recommends that children should be at least 8 weeks old before riding in a BOB stroller without a BOB Infant Car Seat Adapter and compatible infant car seat. Please note that babies incapable of holding their head up must have additional head and neck support to ride safely and comfortably. For jogging or off-road stroller use, children should be at least 8 months old. With the addition of the BOB Infant Car Seat Adapter and compatible infant car seat, newborns may be able to ride in the stroller. Children develop at different rates. Prior to first use, consult with your pediatrician regarding the suitability of stroller use with your child. Please refer to the below table for age/use guidelines. The Infant Car Seat Adapter is designed for walking only due to the higher center of gravity. This accessory will allow parents to use select infant car seats with BOB Strollers.

Moss peds will tell you no jogging with an infant until at least 6 months, many even say to wait until 12 months. I just don't understand why you would risk the jostling to the brain in a young infant. I run with my jogging stroller at times. It is not a smooth ride by any means - even on smooth pavement.

There are many threads about this in the stroller forum which have more info. Let me find them.
