DD (2.5 yo) is really into puzzles right now. She does the wooden 10 or so big piece puzzles. I have a few M&D ones and one from Target and a few from TJ max that I got today. I know the teacher stores carry them, but wondering where else I can look??

Some of the ones that are just square (not a lot of meaningful shapes) are hard for her to do. I have drawn the outline on the board, and that helps DS, but not really DD.

I'm not getting a good idea of the type of puzzle you are talking about. could you provide a link to the kind of thing you are looking for?

I've got a son who really LOVES puzzle so I've done quite a bit of research in this

Offhand, for example. Would the Briarpatch puzzles be appropriate? My son really loves this one: Briarpatch Safari puzzle: http://www.briarpatch.com/product-page.asp?intID=327

It has a 6-pc puzzle, a 8-pc puzzle, a 12-pc, and a 14-pc puzzles. And the backgrounds are dramatically different colors so it is easy to separate the pieces if they get mixed together (they come in separate ziploc bags)

The magnetic open/close box is also fun. My son was playing with this one at 2.5.

For wood puzzles, you might want to look at the Schylling ones:

YEah, those look perfect! Did you find those at a B&M store?

FYI I found my best sources of easy puzzles to be Craigslist and a local used toy store called Anna's Toy Depot. http://www.annastoydepot.com/

the briarpatch puzzles came from Borders toy clearance last year.

I never purchased the other puzzle -- just watched him play with it at childcare and such -- it was on our list a couple of times but never purchased and its sorta easy for him now :(

For us, the next step after these was a 12-pc Melissa and Doug Puzzles in a box thing (there are 4 12-pc puzzles. The pieces are small-ish. But it seemed to be a good transition to more traditional puzzles for my son. http://www.amazon.com/Melissa-Doug-Deluxe-Jigsaw-Puzzles/dp/B000QSLK9G/ref=pd_sim_t_34 and big 24-pc floor puzzles (where he learned to actually LOOK at the picture to determine what pieces to put together)
