What's your favorite sunscreen for faces? Something that is easy to apply but also has good ingredients.

Purple Prairie Stick

I will check out the purple prairie stick. I see that some sunscreens are on Amazon mom with 30% off for S&S. Anyone have any recommendations for any available there?

Link?

We use coppertone water babies pure and simple last year all summer and were very happy with it. Might be a bit overkill if you aren't going swimming, etc.

We used Kiss my face spray and Alba products last year (in conjunction with a hat). I found them really easy to apply!

I try to choose from sunscreens that have good Environemntal Working Group ratings.

http://www.ewg.org/2010sunscreen/best-beach-sport-sunscreens/

Here is the link to the Purple Prairie sun stuff.

http://www.purpleprairie.com/results.php?prod_group=SunScreen

(The name is unique enough that it's not hard to find via google if you lose track of this thread.)

For sunscreens that are more readily available from places like Amazon or in B&M stores,we have liked CA baby stick (it is harder to run in than the Purple Prairie) and Badger lotion (but a lot of people don't like the smell of the Badger stuff).

:yeahthat:
DS1 won't wear Badger b/c of the smell. DS2 is fine with it.

We used the Coppertone Pure and Simple last year as well. It's a "3" on the EWG list, so not as good as a few others...but I'll be honest and say that I'll take that risk because DD lives outside in the summer. I'm not excited about paying 2x - 3x the price, or dealing with stuff that's so hard to put on. (In full disclosure, this isn't as easy as some of the 'really not very good for you' stuff...)

DD's also allergic to something in most sunscreens, and this one doesn't bother her.

Trukid rocks!
The new formula is best rated on EWG.

Another recommendation for the Vanicream. It gets a good rating on EWG, works great and stays put, even in water. It has no scent at all. But it is not cheap!

I third Vanicream... it's the best for anyone with sensitive skin. It's the least irritating and hypoallergenic. In general, physical sunscreens are best for sensitive skin, though sometimes they're harder to rub in. Look for zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide as the active ingredients.

Purple Prairie lotion.

is it scented? does it go on pretty smooth or does it involve a fair amount of rubbing like CA Baby? does it leave skin looking white?

I have a ton of Purple Prairie leftover from last summer. Do you guys know if it is still effective / ok to use?

It's also available in stores as opposed to ordering so if you forget sunscreen you can find it easily. Yes it is a 3, on the EWG but a 3 I'm comfortable with, most of the other sunscreens at the drugstore rate a 7-9.

I haven't tried CA Baby, because I heard it was difficult to rub in and left you white. So I don't have that to compare to. That said, Yes, I think it rubs in pretty easily--more like a lotion than a sunscreen, leaves just a touch of white, but that fades pretty quickly (like minutes later) as it melts into your skin, and it's unscented.

I just picked up Johnson & Johnson's baby sunscreen at Walgreens today after I saw that it rated a "2" on EWG. I didn't even know they made sunscreen!

http://www.ewg.org/2010sunscreen/finding-the-best-sunscreens/314862/Johnson--Johnson-Baby-Sunscreen-Lotion-SPF/

We're headed to Phoenix for Spring Break, so I'll post back as to how well it worked.

I second the site: http://www.ewg.org/2010sunscreen/best-beach-sport-sunscreens/

I used CA Baby for DD last year. I tried a TON and loved this best (and it's pretty easy to find in stores unlike other brands on the ewg list). But for reapplication at the pool or for summer camps, I send Coppertone's spray. Sunscreen is only effective if reapplied so even if you're using the "best" or "safest"!

:yeahthat: Vanicream is available behind the pharmacy counter at Target or www.drugstore.com (http://www.drugstore.com). It is thick, so a little goes a long way. We have also been happy with Blue Lizard.
