My niece is turning 1 in a few weeks. :love5: Bro/SIL are having a big party, with family, friends, & kids. Age ranges 1-10. Any thoughts on party games or activities for this range?

A bounce house is out - they live in an apt and are using the community room there. They were thinking decorate your own cookies, but when he said this I heard, "Make giant mess in community room and all over all children and parents."

I think the theme is flowers/spring/butterflies type thing.

I feel like I have read so many good ideas on here, and am missing something easy/obvious!! Hit me with your ideas.

Colored sand/bottles was one of the best activities we ever did at a party. Spanned all ages (even most parents got into it). Plus...it can double as a favor. We ordered kits from here http://www.sandartsupplies.com/

Just get a whole bunch of balloons. The appeal spans all ages!! :) Get some balloon ball covers to make them safer from the little ones (Etsy).

Well, we do the decorate cupcakes at our parties from age 2 up. It's at 1 table and I put a tablecloth on first. Kids get cleaned after they're done and the tablecloth gets picked up with the mess to deal with later. I don't find it too bad.

We did this at DS's 2nd birthday party this weekend and it was much less messy than I'd feared (we did put down a tablecloth and also a cloth under the table).

We also had a crafts table with whole bunch of different crafts for various ages--everything from crayons/markers (washable), stickers and construction paper, some clearance Land of Nod kits, and a bunch of craft kits from Amazon, including these:

It was great because there was something for everyone (we had a dozen kids aged 1-5), and it definitely kept most of them busy for a good while, and they loved having a project to take home.

ETA: I think it's sold out now, but LON had an adorable flower making kit, which was mainly pipe cleaners and tissue paper--I'm sure you could find something similar, they were really cute and would go perfectly with the theme of your DN's party.

I think that decorating cookies is actually a really good idea. It's something all the kids can do and that the older ones won't think is "for babies".

I can't link to it but it's in party kits...pk30. We put the sand in rectangular tupperware and placed a plastic spoon in each. We set it up outside on our deck but surprisingly there was very little spilled sand.
