I am currently using a $40 ish Remington flat iron that actually works reasonably well on my hair, but there's a slight problem. Every single day, it rips out 5-10 strands of hair (by the root) because of what I assume must be a design flaw. I've been using it for a couple of years, but I'm done with the hair pulling!

So I'm in the market for a new flat iron. I have fairly straight, very fine, but lots of it, hair. Think a ton of baby hair. It's soft and silky, it falls flat in any humidity, but it's pretty easy to work with.

I thought I remembered ladies saying that they liked the Babyliss brand (isn't it made by CHI?) that could be found at TJMaxx and Marshalls, and I've looked at them longingly before, but when I looked this week....they didn't have any.

I really don't want to spend a fortune (read: under $100...way under if something actually works!). So hit me with your best recommendations, please!

I have seen those in TJ Maxx/Marshalls... I would keep checking or call every so often. The one I have works well, but the button placement on it is weird. I won't replace it unless it breaks.

I secretly hope it breaks! :)

Love the Chi and honestly feel it is worth the money. Two others I have heard good things about are Solia and Sedu.

My sister got the Deep Brilliance flat iron and it is identical to my chi, also made by Farouk and works just as well. It is no longer available on Amazon, but might be worth googling. http://www.amazon.com/Farouk-Deep-Brilliance-Ceramic-Hairstyling/dp/B000YDMM54
I think it was created for ethnic hair, but no problems for us Caucasian chicks with rather unmanageable hair.

ETA: If you know anyone with a cosmetic license (hair cutting license?...whatever) they might be able to score you a deal. That's how I got my chi, through a friend's mom who is a hair dresser.

I've heard really good things about the Paul Mitchell Flat Irons. They are over $100 though. Which is the reason I havent bought one yet.

I have similar hair, baby fine, but I don't have tons of it. It doesn't appear thick but not wispy either. I use a Conair Infiniti and it works great. It has never snagged my hair. I use it on a low heat setting.

I have a babyliss. It's the only one I've ever owned but I like it. My hairdresser got it for me. If you like your hairdresser I would start by asking him/her too.

I was doing some research on the Babyliss flat irons on these boards and am trying to decide between the regular and the ultrathin version of the flatiron. The regular is 1 1/4" wide and has a digital temperature adjustment. The ultrathin comes in a 1" size and has a dial adjustment.

I have fine hair that is pretty straight, but a lot of it. My hair stylist used this brand of flat iron on my hair yesterday and I really like the look. She suggested using the flat iron every other day or every few days and just using a vent brush to smooth it out between washings/flat iron.

For those of you that have these flat irons, any suggestions for which would be best?
Do you know what is the amount of temperature adjustment on the dial versus the digital adjustment?

I haven't been able to find that when I searched the boards or on any of the other company/shopping websites I checked.

Thanks!

I got the babybliss ultra flat iron and I LOVE it. I have very straight, baby fine hair that is right above my shoulders. This is perfect. I also use some flat iron spray on it, and it helps keep it so smooth. I am one of those people that have to wash my hair EVERY.SINGLE.DAY or it looks nasty. Very oily hair. But if I wash it, blow dry it, and use this flat iron - it still looks totally good the next morning!!! No joke.

I don't use it every day - only when I am going out really. Or I have several appts or something. Not just run of the mill errands. It doesn't pull my hair and is extremely easy to use.

Thanks for your reply lhafer!

What type of flat iron spray would you recommend? What temperature setting do you use?

My hair is right above my shoulders as well.

Thanks!

I have a CHI and it is great, it has never pulled out any hair but my hair is semi thick. You can get them at BB&B for about $100 then use a 20% off coupon makes it $80.

Some spray I got a Target or Walmart. It's called fx wild harvest hair. It says flat iron on the front. It's a thermal spray. http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/fx-wild-harvest-hair-flat-iron-thermal-spray/ID=prod6055367-product

The setting on the flat iron is at 15 I think (not sure what degree that is - it has a dial you set it to). I tried 11 first, and it wasn't quite hot enough.

I have a Solia which I've been using for a few years, and has been great. I like that you can vary the temperature, depending on how hot you need it for your hair.

I have an FHI that I bought for about $50 about 6 yrs. ago. I like that it heats up quickly and it works well, but I think your best best is going to be either an CHI, or a HAI. I use my flat iron very sporatically now so I haven't felt the need to invest in a better one.

My bff has this (http://www.folica.com/tools/flat-irons/hai-convertable-ceramic-flat-iron) one and loves it. I like my sedu revolution (http://www.folica.com/tools/flat-irons/sedu-revolution-tourmaline-ionic-styling-iron-one-inch), but it's the I've only ever used.
Folica.com (http://www.folica.com/) often has good prices/sales.

Another Solia fan here. Bought it at Folica.com on a deal. I too have a full head of fine hair and it rocks. I use heat protective spray from Sally's. I also tried John Frieda's Frizzease straight heat spray per the recommendation of my stylist and it is awesome! Two high thumbs up!

Amazing difference from the drugstore one I had before.
