I think I'm going to replace our plastic storage containers with stainless steel, airtight containers. I want to avoid glass since we live in an earthquake zone. Tempered glass lids might be okay if they are tightly sealed and don't come off easily.

has anyone used the Simple Human slim canisters or All Clad canisters? Or any other suggestions? I want something that will last and not rust, so I am willing to pay for that.

These get great reviews on William-sonoma and they would work well for me, but they have a plastic liner, which is convenient but kind of defeats the purpose of switching to stainless steel! I wonder if I can use them without the liners. Why not, right?

All Clad makes these, also quite pricey:

I will need a LOT, small to large.

Any thoughts?

We have this set from Calphalon and have no complaints.

I only use it for storing dry goods like sugar, flour and cornmeal. I basically use it as a canister set. What are you looking to store in them?

This set is very pretty...the canisters are oval.

thanks! those are far more affordable. My only issue with these and the All Clad is the handles on top, which prohibit stacking. I suppose these are more for countertop use? I would keep these in the pantry to store things like flour, sugar, lentils, grains, perhaps cereals, and so on.

Two of my friends had pantry moths (UGH) so I wanted something completely airtight.

I called Simple Human CS and it seems that it is possible to use the containers without the plastic liners (they are BPA free), but of course it will be harder to clean them. I can live with that. They cannot be stacked, however, since they have a handle that protrudes on top. I do like the streamlined design. hmmm...

Maybe I can get a combination of styles.

Yes, I keep ours on the counter. How about something like this:

We had a set similar to this one (that we replaced with the Calphalon set) and my only complaint was that the seal got icky after several years of use. It wasn't a silicone seal, though, so maybe they have improved since then?

Thanks for the tip!! I have something like this (just one that was a party favor :)) and it is rusting at the hinge. I wonder if they have changed.
