Any suggestions for a small desk for a 5yo? I was initially looking for a vanity for our dress up queen, but I think a small desk with a tabletop vanity would have more longevity. I am hoping for a desk under 35" wide.

Looking at this tabletop vanity:http://www.amazon.com/KidKraft-Accessory-Organizer-with-Mirror/dp/B003BAR3P6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1301766971&sr=8-1

TIA.

I think this is the one I've seen at Ikea and thought DD#1 would like when she needs a desk: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30141777

FWIW, she does her homework in the kitchen with us and will for the foreseeable future.

DS has a minimal version of this:

Right now he only has 2 shelves.

I have the free-standing version with decor shelves.

What I like about it is that they are easily expandable and adjustable.

Cost Plus usually has smaller desks available.

I will head out to Cost Plus/Ikea this week to check out those suggestions. Thanks. I've actually had my eye on the Ikea one already. I like the price/size.

The Container Store desk system is cool, but I forgot to mention that my price range is CHEAP!

FWIW, my older DD prefers to do her homework at the kitchen island or table with us close by.

Thanks for your comments re: homework. I forget to address that issue. Not really looking for a homework desk yet. I hoping she will use it as a vanity and for coloring/art, etc. at quiet time. I think I found a desk on Craigslist that will be perfect... an Ikea Leksvik child-size desk. I'm not sure if it was a hack, or has been discontinued, b/c I can't find any links to it. It is real wood, has a chair, small hutch, is the perfect size, and the perfect price at $50.
