I would like to get my 15 month old a toy kitchen. There are so many options that I am having trouble deciding which one. Any help would be much appreciated!

I've been happy with my plastic Step 2 Lifestyle kitchen for 8 years now. :) Plastic doesn't bother me or my aesthetic senses. It really is a preference on wood vs plastic and then you can go from there based on space and budget.

Around here two brands seem be the most popular. Step 2 for plastic kitchens, they are very attractive and have lots of cool features (burns that make noise etc) and Kid Kraft for wood also very attractive. Both are well built and have different size, cost and style options. I personally think you can't go wrong with either brand. Other wooden brands are also popular but they don't the selection of Step 2 and Kid Kraft.

We have the Melissa and Doug Cook's Corner Kitchen. DS loves it, I think it's cute and it's not huge. It was also reasonably priced.

DS has the ikea kitchen with the top section. It's cute and I don't mind it in the living room.

I've been wondering about a kitchen too... do you guys know what age these are usually most appropriate for?

We bought ds1 his when he was 18mo. Ds2 started playing with it when he was old enough to pull to a stand and reach it (7m). Pretend play really picks up around 3yo and you get to see the kitchen played with as such. But, they have fun with them before that too.

DD was almost 2 when she got it for Christmas in 2009 (she's 3 now). Step 2 Lifestyle Kitchen from Costco!

DD got her's at 18 months for Xmas. While she played with it opening and closing the doors and putting things (including herself) into it. It seems that only in the past few months has she really started playing "Kitchen" with it where she makes the meals (she even washes her hands ;)) etc.

I'm considering the Ikea one for my 16 month old. If I get it, I'll be replacing the plastic handles/knobs with metal Ikea ones. And I want to find out if I can replace the plastic faucet, too.

I saw it IRL and the plastic bits seemed cheap so I'll probably get the Melissa/Doug one if the faucet can't be swapped. Other than that, it seems like a great kitchen for a great price.

One cool thing: it comes with three hights of legs, so it can start low for a toddler and then grow.
