I've read a lot of old threads and it seems the Corolle dolls are a good choice for 1 year olds... (first doll)

Are they all machine washable or only Tidoo? Is there a reason to pick one over the other? For example, certain ones have blinking eyes or suck their thumb?

DD got this Tidoo from my dad for the Xmas she was 14 mos old.
http://www.amazon.com/Corolle-Tidoo-Sorbet-12-Doll/dp/B0013M1EFO/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1302222127&sr=8-7
She got that one over the other Tidoos because it was on sale LOL (FWIW Amazon has a Tidoo for around $25 right now). For her 1st bday she got this one...
http://www.amazon.com/Corolle-Classic-Baby-Doll-Bebe/dp/B000F5FK32/ref=sr_1_60?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1302222252&sr=1-60
Because it kind of looks like DD and (of course) because it was on sale LOL!

I think the Tidoo was a better size for her at that age. It wasn't until she was way closer to 2 that the larger doll became manageable size-wise. I never thought we would put the Tidoo in the bath (and we haven't). I liked it more for the size. Both of these dolls have eyes that open and close -- which she likes. And the Tidoo has a paci...which DD loves the idea of.

GL with the choice...we have several Corolle dolls around our house and they all get lots of love and attention!

I'm a Calin fan, IMO they feel nicer than Tidoo. I prefer the Calins with hair over the bald ones.

We have a bald Calin and love her-- we joke that she is like a family member. She is most definietly machine washable (all Calins are).

Calin and Tidoo are the same size, but the Tidoo apparently has a different feel as Bubbaray said because of the quick-dry stuff she's stuffed with.

i agree...i was gonna get a tidoo for ds3 for his first bday but got a calin instead. it really does just feel nicer. ours is a boy, so it's bald...poor baby has scuffs on his head, lol.

either calin or tidoo is the PERFECT size. ds3 will be 4 in may and he still loves his baby.

DD2 got a Calin for her 1st birthday...a bald one with eyes that blink. She loves her and sleeps with every night. She loves playing with the eyes. I like the weight of it (has substance but isn't heavy) and it's a great size for my peanut of a 15mo.

Thanks everybody! So Calin and Tidoo are the same size and both machine washable... Is Tidoo a lot lighter? My LO is only 18lbs at 1 so I don't want to get something to big for her.

IMO the Tidoo is super light.

IMO the Tidoo is super light.

Thanks! Do you think Calin is too heavy for a tiny 1 year old?

Calin is also super light. Definitely not too heavy for even the tiniest 1yo IMO.

I think I'm going to get Calin then... I like the looks better! And a few people mentioned rusting eyes when tidoo was used in the tub too much. No thanks. (edited to add: no thanks to rusty eyes... but thanks to you guys for helping me decide!)

Ok I love this one and she is only $21+. But does she really have yellow teeth like some of the reviews say?

DD has both a Calin this one http://www.amazon.com/Corolle-Premier-Calin-Charming-Pastel/dp/B000AM2L1O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1302227485&sr=8-1 and a Tidoo this one http://www.amazon.com/Corolle-Tidoo-Sorbet-12-Doll/dp/B0013M1EFO/ref=sr_1_40?ie=UTF8&qid=1302227535&sr=8-40 (the outfit is much cuter IRL). My DD is a peanut too (tiny) but has always prefered the Calin. One thing is she sits up better, I also prefer the fabric of her body which feels like cotton where Tidoo's feels more like polyester. She is also fuller in the body. I weight them on my kitchen scale and Tidoo is 7.7 oz and Calin is 12.2 (both undressed). Which ever you choose I would go with a bald baby over one with hair. IME little ones just get the hair messy and knotted, bald is a lot easier. I'm including these photos so you can see the difference, Tidoo is on the left, she can't sit up unassisted, Calin can.

Calin's hair is super short -- while I have dealt with my fair share of tangled doll hair over the years, never once has either Calin's hair tangled. They just look like a messy boys buzz cut.

Thank you sooo much! The pictures are perfect for comparison! I think I'll definitely get Calin.

And thanks for the tip on a bald baby... I seem to remember the dolls with hair that I had as a kid always ended up looking pretty freaky after a while.

So, do either of those dolls have teeth? And are they yellow if so?

Definitely the ones with hair. I think they are super cute. YMMV, I guess.

And I think the ones without hair are cuter, it might have something to do with both of my babies being bald ;)

I really like this one but I'm wondering if her hair always has to have that headband in or if she can just have regular hair without it. (I'm also wondering if she really has yellow teeth like the reviews say. LOL That bugs me)

Neither of the Calins I have have yellow teeth. Yes, the headband can be removed.

About the "yellow teeth..."

Sprog has a bald cheerful (or laughing?) Calin. I guess you might say her teeth are yellowish. But I only notice the color when I tilt the head back and look kind of up and under the lip. If you don't do that, the lip casts a shadow over the teeth which makes them look very natural.

I think that's why they give them a beige-y tint. If they were bright white, they'd shine out so much it would look really unnatural.

Thanks so much ladies! That makes sense that they wouldn't want the teeth super white (like Paul on American Idol! ;-)

Great choice, that was DD's first and still her favorite. Now for the accessories ;) We got this for DD when she was a year and she loved it!!! Pushed dollie all over the house. (maybe a gift idea for a grandparent--we got DD's at Walmart) http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Brilliant-Basics-Stroll-Along-Walker/dp/B0015KVXW8/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1302317675&sr=1-1

Oh my goodness... I never even considered accessories! This opens a whole new world to me. ;-) (I was never into dolls that much as a kid)

That stroller is the cutest thing ever. I suppose this is easier for them to push than the little umbrella strollers?

For new walkers its much better because it doesn't roll away from them. We got it for DD at 1 year and she used it until Christmas when we upgraded to the umbrella stroller (she was 2.5). We passed it down to a DF who's DD will be 1 next month, her DD LOVES it too, preferring it to other walker toys she has.
