Who do you think is the best narrator? Male/female.....

Male I would have to say James Earl Jones or Morgan Freeman
Female...???

Alec Baldwin. The Royal Tannenbaums was awesome. ETA2: I like Ringo's, Carlin's & Alec's Thomas the Train narrations.

ETA: Susan Sarandon is good.

Allison Janney (The West Wing, Juno) narrates the Kaiser Permanente commercials here in CA. I think she does a great job.

Good call on James Earl Jones and Morgan Freeman. Excellent voiceovers.

I don't have a personal favorite, but I just had to chime in. I really didn't realize how important narrators are until we watched "Spy on the Ice" on Animal Planet. Frankly, the narrator sucked. It really took away from the drama of the story.

I absolutely love Tim Allen's voice in the Pure Michigan commercials, but I love those ads in general, because they use the score from Cider House Rules, which is a beautiful score.

I also love Dennis Haysbert's voice (sp?) in the Allstate commercials.

As for women, I agree that Susan Sarandon's good, I also like Julie Andrews.

Patrick Stewart, Morgan Freeman and Jack Palance. I like Sean Astin's voice on Meerkat Manor, too.

Definitely James Earl Jones, Patrick Stewart, and Morgan Freeman. Love those voices.

Females....no clue.

I like most of the guys mentioned, and I'll add Kiefer Sullivan, who narrates intros to sports events.

I like Allison Janney too, and Jane Lynch did a bunch before she became famous for Glee. Oh, and Queen Latifah.

I will tell you who I think is the worst. Johnboy Walton in the Cadillac commercials.

Will Lyman, he does Frontline on PBS, just a great voice for all that serious subject matter. Sort of jarring when he did a BMW commercial, but he's an actor in Boston, I'm sure he needs the cash.

I listen to a ton of audiobooks.

I hear Scott Brick (http://www.audible.com/pd/ref=sr_1_1?asin=B002V0Q0LK&qid=1302303625&sr=1-1) a lot. He's very distinct.

Frank Muller (http://www.audible.com/pd/ref=sr_1_2?asin=B002V0KJ5S&qid=1302303757&sr=1-2) was great. He was in a terrible motorcycle accident and passed away. He performed a lot of Stephen King books and King did a great deal to help raise money for him. (end random tidbit).

I loved EVERYONE that read The Help (http://www.audible.com/pd/ref=sr_1_1?asin=B002UZKYDQ&qid=1302303917&sr=1-1).
I do have a slight preference for male voices, in general. But the women who did The Help were phenomenal.

Johanna Parker (http://www.audible.com/search/ref=sr_nsrch_lnk_1?searchNarrator=Johanna%20Parker&qid=1302304012&sr=1-1), who does Sookie is fun.

David Sedaris (http://www.audible.com/search/ref=sr_nsrch_lnk_1?searchNarrator=David%20Sedaris&qid=1302304081&sr=1-1), rocks, but probably only for his own stuff. ;) Same with Sarah Vowell (http://www.audible.com/search/ref=sr_nb_1_1_2?searchNarrator=Sarah%20Vowell&qid=1302304148&sr=1-2).

I actually quite enjoy Stephen King (http://www.audible.com/pd/ref=sr_1_3?asin=B002UZZ1DE&qid=1302304301&sr=1-3) himself, too. (Bag of Bones was great, BTW.)

John Slattery (http://www.audible.com/pd/ref=sr_1_13?asin=B002V1OC5A&qid=1302304394&sr=1-13) of Mad Men fame was great in this King. He also does a car commercial narration.

I had to stop listening to Twilight after about 3 minutes. (I later tried to read it, but gave that up too!)
