Software for photo slideshow

We are helping plan a 50th anniversary party for my Inlaws, and I'm in charge of creating a video slideshow, set to music, to be viewed at the party. What software can you recommend for this?

I need to be able to make copies on DVD for the kids/grandkids, and it needs to be of professional quality because of the formalness of the party and, ahem, high standards of the guests of honor. I was drafted because I love picture-taking, unfortunately I'm not a big techie, so I need something rather user friendly. I know of the websites, free and/or subscription, but I think I'd like to have the software since I would probably like to do more of these once I figure out how to do this one.

DO you have an Apple MAC or window PC?

For Apple.. I use the Imovie or this one http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/overview/.
I had played with photo to movie once but ended up my project using Imovie (just b/c i do not want to pay extra money that time)although the Fotomagico is also reliable software.:)
For DVD printing software I use this http://www.magicmouse.com/. They have all kinds of template from Photo to designing your own.
I've an Epson RX340 for DVD printing.
I usually make my project no more than 5 minutes to keep you audience interested and show the project at end or "finale" like before the cake cutting
this is really fun and nerve wrecking .. selecting the right music, the images.. ..a lot of late night editing!

For Mac, I like Fotomagico. For PC, I like Photodex ProShow.
