We are bed shopping for DS who is 5 1/2. He is currently in a Step 2 racecar bed but wants a "bigger" bed (which apparently means taller, as he is definitely drawn to bunks and loft beds). Today he fell in love with this bed, though:

It has trapdoors in the upstairs clubhouse which open up onto the bed itself and into the little crawl space behind the bed (the "secret passage", as he calls it).
If anyone has this bed, can you tell me how long your DC used it or how long you think he or she will use it? The spaces seem quite small; I certainly won't be going in to read books or anything. Also, if you have older children but don't own this bed, how long do you think it could be used? I don't want to get in the habit of buying a new bed every couple of years. Thanks in advance!
