My 2 year old stilll drinks milk from a bottle in the morning and just before bed. This is mostly my fault for not enforcing a not bottle rule, but she just loves it so much for comfort it's hard. She drinks out of a sippy cup all the time duirng the day. When I tell her it's time to switch to a cup, she agrees but when I give it to her when she wakes up she sips and it comes too fast since she is used to leisurely sucking it (she loves lounging, lol), so she doesn't want it anymore. Is there a transition product out there - maybe the straw cups so she can drink at her own pace when sleepy? Thanks.

Is it a traditional sippy cup with a spout? If so, how about trying one with a straw where she can sip up on her own and control how much she takes in at a time?

Yes Veronica -I think that's a good idea. Any particular brands for the straw cups?

We used these straw cups for a while. They were good

My DD was also really attached to her bottle but one day we just gave her a sippy before bed and she adapted with out any protest. For her morning and nighttime milk we use sippy cups with a valve so it doesn't come out without a suck. For water during the day we use the Take and Toss ones without the valves. Now we are transitioning to regular cups.
We use these two brands.

I guess this is going to sound harsh and I really don't mean it to be, but wouldn't it just be better to be done with the bottles altogether and switch to a sippy (if concerned about spills) or the straw cup? I guess I'm not sure what you mean by a transition cup if she's already using sippy cups during the day. Either one she can control how much she drinks. If you let her go to sleep with the bottle at night then obviously a sippy cup with a valve would be best to prevent spills although I would consider not letting her sleep with the sippy. Since you're going to make the transition away from the bottle at bed it might be a good time to transition away from anything to drink while she goes to sleep.

If it makes you feel any better my nearly 3 yo, who has been drinking out of regular cups and straw cups for ages and ages, still has a morning bottle. It's b/c the only way she will drink cow's milk is warmed and in a bottle, and I guess I don't see the big harm in it - takes her about 3 minutes to drain the thing, so I can't imagine it's doing damage to her teeth/mouth/palate. I know they don't *need* cow's milk if they're getting other dairy but I feel like this is an easy way to get some in - and I'm sure at some point soon she will not want to use a bottle.

DD never liked a regular sippy cup. We transitioned her at a year but she hated tipping a cup back. I don't think they make ours anymore but they were made by nuby. Here is a new version made by nuby:

These look good too.

I also think you can definitely use the "new cup" as a great segway for "this is how you get milk now"...
