We have been invited to a wedding on Cape Cod over Memorial Day weekend. The wedding is in Sandwich, we are going with our two girls 4 & 6 who are flower girls - they are so excited!

Obviously it is a tough weekend to get reservations this close to the date, and we're not familiar with the cape so not sure where to look. DH is thinking of making it more of a mini-vacation and staying at a nice resort, but those seem to be further out on the cape, Chatham or Brewster. Will traffic be a nightmare and make getting to the wedding/rehearsal difficult? Or any other suggestions on places to stay? TIA!

DH's family has a house in Chatham so we are there a lot. It is quite a haul from Chatham to Sandwich - 45 minutes with no traffic. I don't think I'd do that if the main reason for the trip is the wedding. If you're going for a week and have to drive to Sandwich 2 times, no big deal, but to do it twice in a weekend seems like a lot. Brewster would be a little less of a drive - maybe closer to 30-35 minutes depending on where it is in Brewster? Another place to check out would be Dennis. That would be a more manageable drive.
Traffic totally depends on timing. There will be traffic getting onto the Cape Friday afternoon through early evening, probably Saturday morning. and then Sunday usually starting early afternoon through early evening, though that depends on the weather - if it's bad weather people tend to leave earlier, if it's gorgeous they leave later.
Once you get on the Cape, traffic is usually not too bad, unless it's raining, in which case everyone gets in their cars and heads for places like the main big box shopping area in Hyannis and downtown Chatham.
Hope that helps a little!
