Not sure where to put this ... but it seems carseat related! :)

Sprog is tragically upset :crying: by extended bright sun in her eyes. It's the only thing she's truly a drama queen about. So I'd like to thank her for her usual good-humor and help out about the sun situation. (If she were a big whiner about everything ... well I'd probably just let her tough it out:))

Anyway - what's good? I know roller shades aren't recommended due to the projectile issue. The other kinds I've seen are flexible screens w/suction cups and the adhesive film kinds. I don't want to waste $ on something that will keep falling off!

I'd also like to screen the rear window - is that even legal?

BTW she's rear-facing of course. 16 months and will NOT do sunglasses.

My DD was so like Sprog with the sun! I ended up using the Eddie Bauer clings on the window closest to her and a rolling one on the opposite window (projectile? Really? It's clamped down on the top of the window and the window is rolled up...not sure how it would come off). I also used clings on the upper part of my back window (so 2 of them on the top half). That helped a lot, but there were always those days where the darn sun was able to find that one-little-bit that wasn't covered. For us, last year (when my DD was Sprog's age) was the toughest. This year, DD just yells "Mommy! I need my sunglasses, please!" She's even pealed the clingy off the window and doesn't care about the sun.....ah, how a year changes everything!

About the projectiles - I think it was here I read a bunch of opinions that those roller shades go flying in an accident and could do serious damage. Honestly, that isn't a super-huge fear of mine but I figured someone would bring it up!

That's a good idea to just put the clings on the upper part rear-window. That would cover it, huh? I was thinking we'd have to cover the whole thing.

DS has an extreme sensitivity to sunlight due to his albinism. We have these shades on the side windows:

http://www.amazon.com/Sunshades-Side-Rear-Windows-Sunlight/dp/B003N2UXRW/ref=pd_sim_auto_1

We are very happy with these. They stick very well, in all kinds of temperatures. They are lightweight, so I am not concerned about them being a projectile in an accident. And they block the sun for DS, but do not affect my ability to see through the window while driving.

i have these. got them at costco way before DH and I were even married. when i took my carseat to the police station, the offiicer said those were safe to use (and not the roller shade ones which can hurt a baby if it comes flying off).

i only use it on the side she's on. it does stay on except when DH does the driving in my car and forgets and rolls down all the windows. he has tinted windows in his car so he doesn't use the shades.

I've heard of a child severely injured by a roller shade (my coworker's dd is an EMT at age 18, she sees a lot of bad things, and this really stuck with her, at least the baby survived!). I *think* the problem is, if you find the hooks mess with the seal on your window, you only use the suction cups, and those are definitely not strong enough to hold that weight on in a crash. In a frontal, it's a missile aimed at the front passenger's head, and in a side, it's aimed at the baby. If the hooks don't mess with the window and you use them, then it's probably a lot less likely to fling free :)

Anyway, the lighter, the better, and yes, rear ones are ok. "Limo Dark" from the auto store is the darkest, so definitely check out the auto department, at least. And call around for real window tinting, you may find it's not as much as you'd expected, and it works way better than anything you can stick on your windows (I know I spent way more than a good tint job buying all the shady things I've bought in my lifetime :p)

The Costco ones with suction cups ALWAYS fell off so I just paid $200 (in a high COL area) to get 15% tint professionally applied to my rear windows and rear windshield. TOTALLY worth the cost.

Thanks, all!

Now I want to get my windows tinted mobster-style! Do you think that would look cool on my 95 Escort Wagon????

I used to drive a 95 Escort Hatchback! Loved that car. But I just had to comment & say if you're driving a 95 Escort Wagon, is looking cool a high priority for you? :) My car has the windows professionally tinted & I agree...it's totally worth it.

Excellent image.

Tell us if you need any help figuring out your carseat installs (middle lapbelt should be a breeze, but if you ever have to do it outboard, the belts don't lock and it can be a challenge. Maybe we can help you get top tether anchors, too for forward facing installs :))

You guys are too funny. I really regret not getting the back windows of the 01 Corolla tinted years ago, but now DH won't do it because he doesn't want to put any money into the car.

I never thought to have a sun shade in the back of the car for DD1 either so DH is probably just going to say that she is fine; at least this summer she'll still be in the Safeseat so that has a sun shade.

DD has recently become a drama queen about the sun too. We use these:
