Can someone help me find and choose a formal hairstyle for a black-tie event THIS Saturday? I'm not having much luck finding something at the moment.

I don't need something super intricate, but I'd like something that looks nice and sophisticated. If it helps, I have slightly longer than shoulder-length straight hair with side-swept bangs (the bangs are growing out, so not super-long yet).

Pictures/links are much appreciated.

What about just keeping it simple? Blow dry it out and flat iron it- smooth, sleek and shiny.

I'd pay someone otherwise and trust them. :)

Oh, I'm definitely going to the salon to have it done...I just wear it flat ironed and down most of the time, so I wanted something a bit different.

Gotcha. My mind was stuck on that style b/c it has been so prevalent on the red carpet recently. I was trying to find and Oscar photo gallery for ideas but I wasn't getting what I wanted. You might try searching there. I think Natalie Portman had nice hair this year.

How about a chignon? Basically pulled back low/on your neck but beyond that the possibilities are endless...

What kind of hair texture do you have? I just did this search and I usually go with the sleek chignon but decided to do a loose chignon instead. I also have sideswept bangs but stick straight hair so I was nervous about it but I loved my updo!

Also what does your dress look like? Would you want a super formal updo with a little more volume and structure? Or a more romantic loose style? There are so many great options when you look at google images!

I didn't have time to post last night, but I was also thinking of a loose chignon. There are so many variations, some more loose and "messy" and some more "perfect". I just typed the phrase in, and this is what I came up with. hth
