My parents are visiting. We only see them 2 or 3 times a year. My parents adore my dc. They would do anything for them.

But, my dad is 75 and was not around much when I was a child. He really doesn't understand kids very well. He also has been diagnosed with dementia. The problem is that he has very little patience with my kids, my 3 yo DS in particular. When he loses his patience, he yells. DS has walked away from him twice today with hurt feelings. I've talked with DS about how papa loves him very much, but that he isn't used to being around kids and doesn't know how best to talk with him.

It's so hard, because I know my dad loves my kids to death, but I think his lack of developmental understanding, lack of patience, and dementia are a tough combination. My mom has tried talking with him, but honestly, I don't know how much he is able to remember.

It just makes me so sad all around.

I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. I don't have any BTDT experience, I wish I had some advice.
