What type of scooter for a 5 year old?

I'm thinking of getting DS a scooter for his 5th birthday but I have no idea which one would be best.

I think that's a good choice. They're often cheaper on sale at TRU. I've gotten them for $20 or so.

For a 5 yo? Razor scooter (the $25.00 one - A1 I think it's called?). There's no need to get anything fancier than that, they work great and are a lot of fun.

Every child in our neighborhood has the basic Razor scooter; from preschool to middle school. but My Kindy DC and the 8th grader down the street have the same one.

My almost 5 year old just got the Maxi kick. We are huge fans of the whole Kick line of scooters.

DD#1 has a Razor A3 ($35 a few weeks ago on amazon.com):

It does seem to have a smoother ride than her friend's Razor A, and we've both been very happy with the purchase. When DD#1 got hers, DD#2 "needed" a scooter, too, and is now chasing after her big sister (in our very quiet subdivision) on a Mini kick.

I think I'll keep my eyes out for a sale on Razor scooters. The Maxi Kick looks great, but I'm hoping this will be a gift from MIL and FIL and their budget is usually around $50.
