View Full Version : Hugging my babies a little tighter tonight (loss mentioned)

Just got a phone call that our friend's 4 year old daughter was hit by a car and killed instantly this afternoon. She ran into the street after a ball.

Please please please be careful! Be alert while driving and slow down! Make sure your kids know to stop at the curb, even though they probably won't listen and will run anyway.

I am just numb and shocked.

If you are the praying type, you can remember J & T, and their younger son J as they mourn the loss of their daughter and sister B.

We also have to figure out how & when we are going to tell DS1. These are the parenting moments you are NEVER prepared for.

I'm so sorry. The thought is just chilling and horrible beyond belief. I think children can be told over and over again not to run after a ball when it rolls into the street, but their natural instincts just lead them to go after it. My heart goes out to the family.

As of now, he has not been charged with anything as the accident is still under investigation.

This is every parent's nightmare :( I'm so sad to hear this..

One of my mom's friends hit and killed her dd's friend (they were neighbors - similar situation where the kid ran into the road and the driver didn't see her) and it was so traumatic even for the driver that she had to go away for a month or two. Imagine how the parents must feel.. so sad all around.

Oh no. So, so sorry.

This is precisely the reason why I won't let my kids play with balls in the front yard, just too tempting to run after it. We are also on a street where I see not only a lot of teenage drivers but senior citizens, too (should also add moms with distracting kids).

I'm so sorry to hear and i'm so sadden for both families. My thought and prayers are with the families.

** I almost had this happen last night as i had my hands full (pc, dd's backpack, and my lunch bag) after i got her out of her carseat . dd grabbed a golf ball from bucket dh had, bounced one, and started chasing after a golf ball. i was lucky that the driver saw her and i managed to catch up to her 2/3 the way down the driveway. dh got an earful because i dont like anything that can potentially roll out into the street in her reach in the garage now he knows why.

PLEASE KEEP BALLS AND OBJECT THAT MIGHT ROLL INTO THE STREET OUT OF REACH FOR LITTLE ONES AND TEACH THEM TO ASK YOU FOR THEM SO YOU CAN BE VIGILANT.

Likewise, when you are driving please WATCH for little ones, especially around schools and in residential areas.
