Key West 101 Please

Reservation - check - Casa Marina, Key West
Flights - check - direct to Key West
Everything else - ugh!

I normally plan plan and then plan some more vacations, but not this one. Work, family and house projects have left too little time.

I called today to find out how to get from the airport to the hotel - cab and shuttle are the same price.

Just DH and I are going. R&R is what we need, and a few good cocktails and meals would be nice too without breaking the bank (got a good deal on the resort.) Seriously laying a hammock on the beach for a few days is just what the Dr ordered for us.

What must we do while there?

I have only been once, and just for a couple of days, so I don't know a lot of specifics, but I would recommend leaving some open time with no plans so that you can explore. Just roaming around downtown was fun to me. Since we were there for such a short time, we just did most of the touristy stuff: southernmost point, lighthouse, etc. I really enjoyed sunset at Mallory Square. Most beautiful sunset I have ever seen...

Just go with a relaxed attitude and you will have a blast!

2 old friends of mine run a tour company in Key West. I haven't done the tour with them yet, but I used to work with them on the Boston Tours and I'm sure the Key West version is just as great! I have done the Key West tour with Old Town Trolley when he worked there, but he recently opened the only competition Old Town Trolley has ever had in Key West and is doing really well! Please support the little(er) guy :)

Go to the Hogfish Grill on Stock Island for great food
Turtle Kralls on the water
Sunset celebration, of course.

Don't miss this place. It's SO good. A little off the beaten path. Save room for the Banana Heaven desert.
