-Daddy penguin hates being stuck on the ice
-longs to travel to far away places
-is jealous of birds that can fly
-does not realize all the good things he has at home

The Dad penguin wants to travel to new places and see new things and wishes he were a "proper" bird that could fly up in the sky, and his family tries to persuade him that a man belongs at home and that he should give up his dream of traveling abroad, which he eventually does. It's kind-of depressing, actually. It says that his wings are too small to allow him to soar up in the sky like a bird, so he sits alone in the snow and ice and cries. And his wife and kids keep telling him to give up and that he has no choice but to stay, and his kids make fun of him for trying to fly like a bird. Sad, really.
