I am not a good cook and I don't like to do cook. I bought a slow cooker because I've heard it's convenient and the meals turn out pretty good. Do you have a favorite recipe you can share? I am not a vegetarian but I try to have a low-meat diet so any vegetarian recipes would be great.

Thanks. This is my first post in the cooking section of this board. That says a lot about my cooking credentials...

I would get a slow cooker cookbook and just start trying the recipes. The big recipe sites also have slow cooker sections as well.

Haven't tried out the recipes yet, but I bought these two cookbooks recently:

Slow Cooker Revolution (America's Test Kitchen)
http://www.amazon.com/Cooker-Revolution-Editors-Americas-Kitchen/dp/1933615699/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1305498172&sr=8-1

and

The Big Fix it and Forget it Cookbook
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/156148640X

My impression of the Slow Cooker Revolution cookbook is that it seems to contain more time consuming, fancier recipes. I think the Big Fix it and Forget it Cookbook is a more practical, daily use cookbook.

Thanks, I will try the Slow Cooker Revolution. My husband loves America's Test Kitchen and Cook's magazine so I'll start there. We'll see how it goes.

:yeahthat: Her cookbook is THE BEST one I have found! And I have several. The majority of the recipes are on the website. I just find it to be easier to have the cookbook on my counter top than use the web.

I know this one gets alot of praise too (my library has it, so you may want to check yours) http://www.amazon.com/Your-Mothers-Slow-Cooker-Cookbook/dp/1558322450/ref=pd_sim_k_1

I love the Crockpot 365 cookbook, too. I have never bought or cooked from the Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker Cookbook, but have leafed through it many times and even put it on Christmas lists, but still don't have it. It looks like another really good one.

I also recommend Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker Cookbook. I have it and use it regularly, in fact we're having the Chicken Cacciatore recipe from there tonight!

My cousin just made this and said it was really good. She said the sauce doesn't get thick but is more like an au jus consistency.
She used whole cranberry sauce (not the jellied stuff).

Thanks everyone for your wonderful suggestions. I am definitely going to try some. I am really incompetent when it comes to cooking and I already had my first bad experience with a broccoli cassoulet (sp?) in the slow cooker. So I REALLY need any help I can get. Thanks again!
