How lo did your child play with duplos until you got them Lego's? DS will be 3 in Oct and really liked playing with the Lego's at the store in downtown Disney, but I'm wondering if duplos would be better for his age or if we'd be ok getting the Lego's.

No way would I buy Legos for a 2.5 year old. I think he'd have just as much fun with Duplos until at least 4, and he'll be able to do more with them due to his hand size and level of dexterity.

I agree. Legos are really small and while my near 3 yo can do it a bit, he is much happier with with Duplos.

I would go with the duplos at his age.

That said, my 4yo has been playing with the regular Legos since he was 3 and told me a couple of months ago to put the duplos away because they were "baby" toys. But that's because he has an older brother so he's had access to the regular Legos when he stopped putting things into his mouth. DS1 did play with his duplos much longer and didn't really get interested in the regular Legos until close to 5.

I agree go duplos we have both and while my 6 yo only plays with legos my 3yo only plays with duplos. My son really didn't big into legos until he was over 5. Another thing is you don't really need to go over board with duplos. One or two sets will probably be all you need. MIL got DD the number set for christmas and that is a nice learning toy.

Thanks everyone! I wasn't sure exactly what the Lego sets entailed, since I haven't really had a need to look at them. We'll get a couple Duplo sets and call it good for awhile.
