Having a birthday party this weekend, 17 adults and 9 kids. Kids are all 6 and under.

I was thinking of ordering 5 large pizzas from Pizza Hut. Does this sound ok? I don't know if this is too much or not enough pizza. I am also serving homemade mac & cheese, salad, fruit, cake, ice cream and a few appetizers.

thanks!

How many slices are in a large pizza? I would plan on adults eating an average of 2 pieces and kids 1 piece each. (My 6 y.o. and 3 y.o. might each more.) Unless pizzas have more than 8 slices, I'd probably go with 6 pizzas. (I think you'll need about 43 slices.)

I *think* the lady at pizza hut said each pizza (medium or large) is 8 slices. My 4 year old won't touch pizza, so that's another reason why I'm making mac & cheese. So really it's 8 kids because he won't count.

I'd get 6 as well. Better safe than sorry.

I use the same math. We had a similar menu at DS2's birthday party, except no mac/cheese. 25 adults, 12 kids (3-10). I ordered 8 Large pizzas from Domino's ($7 one topping L pizzas). We had about 5 slices left.

How many men? I've seen men eat 3-4 slices, easy.
multiply the men times 3 to be safe.

I'd multiply the kids x 1.5 slices to be safe (a few will eat two depending on age)

multiply the women x 2 to be safe (some won't eat any, some will eat 1, some will eat 2-3)

assuming you are having about half men (?) 8x3=24
kids 8x 1.5=12
women 9x2 = 18

I'd aim for 50+ slices to be sure you don't run out. I'd do 6-7 pies.

I would do at least 6 just to be sure. Men eat a lot more.

Gosh, that's almost 30 people. The 4 of us can eat almost 2 medium pizzas at a sitting. :o

Most adult women I know would eat 2 slices and the men 3-4. So I would figure 3 slices per adult on average.

(17*3)/8=6.375

And that's before any kids and some adults might eat 4 slices.

I would order 9 pizzas personally. I would always rather have too much food than not enough.

ETA: My 4 year old ate 2 slices of large pizza tonight for dinner.

I was going to say the same thing... 9 pizzas. I would always rather have too much than to run out. It all depends on your crowd, but some people can put away some pizza. :)

The 4 of us can just about finish 4 large pizzas. DH can eat 5-6 pieces, I eat 2, Ds1 (8) eats 4 and Ds2 (5) eats 2. We usually have 2-3 pieces left over and Ds1 takes them to school the next day for lunch.

I would order 8-9 pizzas. You can always put the leftovers in the fridge and eat them later.

What time of day are you serving the pizza and are their other factors that might influence how much people eat.....they are outside and it's super hot.

Also, I think most people eat less in public than at home....I could eat 4 pieces of pizza at home but I would never eat more than 2 at a birthday party. If I am having cake and other snacks, I would probably just eat one.

How was the Domino's pizza? I haven't had their pizza in years. $7 per pizza is a really good deal. Pizza Hut is $10 per large.

Party is 3 to 6pm.... I figure we'll eat around 3:30 or 4. Should be warm - mid 70's... hopefully we can have it outside. I really hope the weather cooperates!

I wouldn't plan dinner size portions for that time of day. I think you should be good with 6-7 pizzas.

I'd say 6-7 pizzas then

Do you think you are serving dinner? I would probably order 7-8 to make sure I had enough. I think 5 is too few. I also think you have to accept that there is no way to call it precisely. I always slightly overorder because I do not want to run out. If you get it just precisely, you never know if it was precise or you ran out (KWIM?). I would just make sure there are 2 slices minimum for everyone and plan from there.

At work, we always calculate 2.5 slices per adult...that allows for men who eat more and women who might eat less. It works without fail.

I guess I'd allow for 1.5 per child.

I would do 8 pizzas. If there are lots of leftovers and you're tired of pizza, you can freeze it and thaw it out for an easy dinner sometime.

It was good! I order online and like to add sauce to mine. :) I think their new sauce is good too. I liked them before so I was a little concerned with their "all new" pizza.

I used to always order the $5 Mama Mia pizzas from Pizza Hut, but then they switched up to $10 a pizza (which I found out the morning of a party btw and they were STILL showing on the website, but the store refused to honor it...there is a post about it somewhere!). We tried Costco for awhile which is great, but a pain to have to pick it up.

I was really happy with Dominos. I was actually really disappointed to not have leftovers-the five slices didn't make it past the people who stayed late! Going with them saved me $25 over Pizza Hut since I ordered 8.

I always over order pizza, but it generally freezes really well. I would order 8.
