Use or Toss?

I have an unopened sealed Ken's Salad Dressing in my pantry. It was in the back and I just found it, and the date is 2/2009....would you use it?

I opened it and it smells fine. The preservatives probably kept it OK?

What kind of salad dressing is it?

If it is a creamy dressing like ranch, I would toss it without a second thought. That would be a food safety issue.

If it's a vinegar dressing, I would have a little more interior debate about it. After all, vinegar doesn't really go bad; there may be some cosmetic changes over time, but vinegar lasts for a really long time. However the spices and herbs that make up the other ingredients lose their potency and flavor over time. That would be a food quality issue. So I'd end up tossing it.

So either way I would toss.

Yay, finally Bubbaray and I agree on a "use it or toss" thread :jammin: I would throw it out...not because I think it would make me sick, but when I have tried this (and yeah, I have things in my pantry that are at least that old!) even though it smells fine, it tastes off. Not bad but just not right!

Sorry it took me so long to post back, I was having a salad :tongue5: just kidding.

You know in my mind I was thinking it was only a year and change old (still pretty old I guess)...I think I'm in denial that it is 2011! I bought a new bottle today and pitched it.

FWIW, it was not a "creamy" or "cheesy" dressing....just Italian. You know it really didn't smell bad, which is surprising.
