DD takes children's claritin liquid in the morning. I just asked DH to get me 1tsp benedryl for her (she is very stuffed up all of a sudden and was having issues). DH does not pay attention and gave her a second dose of claritin (I gave her a dose at 7 am). It's the 24 hour version. Do I need to take DD to the ER, call poison control or just make her drink a lot?

My first thought was to call the poison control, because I bet they know what the critical doses are. Sorry this happened! FWIW, I bet they tell you not to worry and just to monitor her.

UPDATE: Called poison control. DD only had 1/2 dose when she said it tasted like her morning medicine. I stopped her from drinking it. Poison control said this was a common mistake and due to her weight/age and the dose, there was nothing to worry about. Although I could just wring DH's neck for not checking the label first!

Whew....glad they were able to give you an answer so quickly and that it was a good one to here! I know you feel like you could ring DH's neck, but I think it could happen to any of us -- and I'm assuming he feels pretty bad about it.....

DD#1 regularly takes double the labelled dose of Aerius. Her ped. allergist has OK'd double doses of Aerius or Claritin, as needed. She takes the double Aerius dose for months at a time.

Love poison control. They seem to know the answer right away no wishy washy anything. Just had a friend call about her hubby giving her infant a full dose of childrens' tylenol. Glad it worked out alright!

FYI, they also will answer veterinary poisoning questions. I've called more times for the stupid dog than for my kids. Which is kinda funny, kinda not.

Best stupid dog poisoning call was when I had to call because the dog licked the plumbing glue off of one end of sprinkler pipe while DH was working on the other end. Stupid freakin' dog. That was actually quite serious, but he ended up OK.

Similar situation here. DS2 is on the adult dose of Zyrtec which we divide in half between morning and evening.
