View Full Version : stroller dilemma - what to use for first several months?

So here's my situation. We have two strollers, both seven years old: the Zooper Boogie and the Maclaren Triumph. Both are in very good condition. I had planned to buy a stroller frame (we borrowed one with DS) to use with the infant carseat (Chicco Keyfit) for the first several months and then just use our Triumph after that. (The Boogie is awesome and does accept a carseat as well as has a full recline, but it is really too big for malls, etc; I'll use it a ton for neighborhood walks, though.)

However, I've been thinking about it and wondering if instead we should buy something that will work with our without the infant seat and that has a full (or nearly, at least) recline that we can use from the get-go. I looked at strollers today and the sales assistant showed me the Cybex clips that can be used to secure a carseat into pretty much any stroller (though probably not our Triumph due to the seat depth).

I've heard great things about the BJCM, but I've been so spoiled by the small footprint of our Triumph that it seems too big, especially for using at the mall, etc., though it would be great for places like the zoo. The store I was at had a Zooper Waltz on closeout for a good price, but I need to research that one more. I've also considered a different Maclaren as I've been happy with the Triumph.

I don't care whether there is a napper bar, snack tray, etc. Cupholder would be nice but not a necessity. If we're going to get something new (other than a stroller frame) I'd ideally like a bigger basket than the Triumph has. The most important features are lightweight, able to be used in a mall and other places where a smaller footprint is helpful, easy to fold, and good quality, as if we buy something other than a stroller frame it would be our primary stroller for the next few years until this baby no longer needs a stroller. DH and I both have a long stride and are 5'10 and 5'8 respectively so several of the smaller strollers are out of the running. We'll need to bring it on airplane flights as well as in the car. Oh, and not too expensive. I could maybe see spending $250 if I'm convinced this will be a worthwhile purchase/upgrade; otherwise I should probably just go for a Snap'n'Go or Graco frame.

Thanks for any advice! I've been going around in circles on this one so thought I'd see what the BBB wisdom can do. :-)

What about a Techno XLR? Or the new Aprica Presto Flat? Or a Cybex Onyx? All have a fairly small footprint, will take a carseat (not sure about the KF though), in your budget, and have tall handles.

ETA: NM about the Aprica, I guess it only takes Graco or Teutonia seats.

ANB Baby has the Cybex strollers at the same price as Albee baby but they have a 20% off code for Cybex strollers to use as well...brings them down quite a bit lower. That's where bought my Callisto from.

Take a look at the Peg Perego Si too. It sounds like it meets all your requirements. It's a full featured umbrella that uses clips to secure any car seat.

Thanks! Those all look like some wonderful options. I'll have to go try them out in person if we decide to go ahead and purchase a "real" stroller as opposed to just a frame.
