View Full Version : "Baby jail" suggestions?
I'm looking for recs on some sort of baby corral for our living room for our soon to be crawler. We have pack n play but I was thinking of those barricade-like baby yards so she could have the run of the living room.
We have a square living room with a sofa and two chairs at right angles to each other so if something exists that could only barricade off 2 sides (ideally without having to be wall mounted), that would be awesome. That way she could use the sofa and chairs to learn to pull to stand
A friend has the north states metal superyard and she likes it but it looks like you need 2 of them to make any meaningful sized play area. And they're pricey but if there's no other options, we'll bite the bullet
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

We have the metal super yard, 2 actually, and I do think that's your best option. I use our 2 in separate parts of the house and if you're going to use some furniture 1 should be enough to make a decent size play space. Their are other options like the super yard in plastic but all of them are kind of $$.

We just babyproofed the family room and gated it. It was nice.

We have the plastic superyard in our family room and it is working really well for us. The space isn't huge, but DS doesn't mind being in there at all - it seems to be plenty of room for him.
I got it from babyboutiqueoutlet:

I know I had some sort of 10-15% discount that I found by googling, but I'm not seeing it right now. I think they have a new customer discount too.

We used the play-pen as a "Gate" to close off the living room when my son was younger. One side against the back of the couch, the other against a shelf such that he had the entire run of the living room but could not go into the kitchen/the area where the stairs were. If you don't have furniture to use to help gate off like that, I'd also recommend the plastic SUperyard. Its quite long when stretched out -- will fall over so still needs supervision. But when we had moved furniture around and were packing to move, it stretched the entire length of our living room to keep our son in the living room, still -- not attached to anything. We put one end between the sofa and another piece of furniture, and the other end "bent" in a little to cause it to stay standing. For a 13-month old that was mostly supervised, it was sufficient.

This is what we did too.

We have 2 plastic Superyards and just created a big fenced in area in our living room too and it's working well. Craigslist in our area always has quite a few of them available so if you live in a good Craigslist area you could check there too.

We used a few plastic superyard sets with all my kids in some form in various locations for our baby jail.

My parents bought this for me when my oldest daughter turned one. I've had it for 7 years, and am about to set it up for the 4th time. It's definitely a keeper!
