My son's second birthday is coming up and he has an egg-white allergy (and his two cousins do, too). We're planning to get an ice cream cake for his birthday party so that all the kids can enjoy the egg-free birthday treat, but I wondered if there are any other options of sweet treats I can provide that don't have eggs in them. Does anyone have any good recipes or suggestions of egg-less desserts that kids might like? Thanks in advance!

There are plenty of egg-free cakes, if you want to go that route (and I'm sure you know this, but a lot of ice creams DO have eggs in them, so make sure to check that!) Sorbets are less likely to have eggs in them, but many still do.

Other ideas: chocolates, jelly beans, fruit pie

Shortbread is eggless.
Popsicles
There is a good orange flavored vegan cake recipe in Joy of Cooking.
Lemonade
Rice Krispy treats
Fresh fruit on it's own or served with whipped cream

My 6 yo is allergic to eggs.
For his last birthday, we had rice krispie treats and they were a hit.

Someone recently recommended this cookbook to me and told me everything she'd ever tried from it was great. I've made two recipes so far and they were great:

She also said the cupcake one is great too:

we have this recipe book and I find it very useful - my son is no longer allergic to dairy now so I do use butter or milk if needed, but all the recipes are egg free:

if theres just a basic recipe you want, I can email it to you if you like but the chocolate cupcake recipe is online:

Rice Krispie treats are our go-to egg-free treat.

DS2 is egg allergic. I have an egg free chocolate cake recipe (very easy and very yummy) and white cupcake recipe if you are interested.

I'll add pudding to the list.

I made this as cupcakes a week or so ago and it came out well (I was looking for something easy, not something lacking eggs),

We don't have any egg allergies here but I make this cake all the time because it's so quick and easy. It comes out nice and fudgy.

1 1/2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup cocoa
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
5 tbsp oil
1 tbsp vinegar
1 tsp vanilla or peppermint
1 cup cold water

Mix together dry ingredients until blended (I do it by hand but you can use a food processor)
Add remaining ingredients and process until blended. (I use a hand mixer because I'm just too lazy to pull out my food processor for a quicky cake)
Pour into a greased 8" square baking pan
Bake 1/2 hour at 350F

It doubles well if you need to make a bigger cake.

I ice it with this;

1 cup icing sugar
2 tbsp soft margarine
2 tbsp cocoa
2 tbsp hot water
1/2 tsp vanilla
pinch of salt

My BFF's DD has an egg allergy and when they come over to celebrate B-days with us I just use a box cake mix (usually Funfetti cuz she doesn't like chocolate). However, instead of adding egg like the mix calls for, I use a Flax seed-water mixtue to substitute for the egg. I have never had anyone (kid or grownup) comment that it tasted different. I haven't tried it in a made from scratch cake, but I'm sure it would work just as well.

You can buy Flaxseed just about anywhere, but it's easiest to find in a health old store. Obviously, you want to make sure if you are using a mix, there is no egg hidden in the ingredients. I agree with PP about the ice cream cake too, my friend has a hard time finding egg free ice cream cakes too. I was going to get my DS a carvel one but noticed it had egg in the ingredients.

We love jello here. My DSs bring it to birthday parties for their treat often. If you end up making rice crispie treats, make sure to check the marshmallow ingredients--some contain egg :(

Have a fun party!

My son had a egg allergy as a toddler which luckily he outgrew. But we did the flax for egg with success, except in things where it might show and look weird, in which case you can use ener-b egg eplacer, which is a tapioca starch concoction you can use in place of eggs for almost all things eggs are used for. We got it at whole foods.

I still use the flax replacement if I am baking and find myself out of eggs - it really does work just fine.

I totally want to try this substitution! I keep feeling like he "needs" to have a cake with frosting and "Happy Birthday" on it in order for it to feel like a real birthday party, for some reason. This might be my solution! (Along with having Rice Krispie treats and Jello jigglers alongside it.)

Awesome suggestions, everyone -- thank you so much!

There's an "applesauce cake" receipe that's been posted here many times. I used it for 3 years for DS's bday cake. It tastes so yummy. I used a Betty Crocker cream cheese frosting--it's like a spice cake w/cream cheese frosting. It can also be milk-less (I used shortening rather than butter). I have always received lots of compliments on it, and it's super easy--I do it in cake or cupcake form. Also, if you do a search for "wacky cake" that's an easy eggless cake receipe.

See my post above yours - try ener-b. :) Esp if you are doing a light cake... with chocolate though flax should work fine.

We're dairy-free (and used to be soy-free too) and this brownie recipe would be used weekly to satisfy mommy's chocolate addiction. It doesn't have eggs either...and is SUPER easy to make!

Dairy Free/Soy Free Brownies

1 c unsweetened applesauce
1/2 c sugar
1 tsp vanilla
3/4 c white flour
1/3 c cocoa powder
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c semi-sweet vegan chocolate chips (Enjoy Life brand are the only ones without Soy)

Preheat oven to 350. Lightly spray or oil 8 x 8 pan. Mix applesauce, sugar, vanilla in medium bowl. In another bowl wisk flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together. Make a well in dry ingredients and add applesauce mixture. Mix until just combined. Gently fold in chocolate chips. Spread in pan and bake 25-30 min until center is firm and not sticky. Cool completely before slicing.

My Notes:
-Recipe doubles well. Bake in 9 x 13 pan.
-Recipe does not need chocolate chips if you can't find them, though you may want to bake a few minutes fewer without chocolate chips (25-28). You can probably use regular chips if you don't need to cut dairy and/or soy.
-Not necessary to make well in dry ingredients, but do mix dry ingredients thoroughly before adding wet ingredients.
