DS currently uses his good ol' sleep sheep, but wakes up nearly every time the 45 min cycle runs out...does anyone have recommendations for a white noise device/toy/machine that runs continuously or at least for a good few hours?? (this mama needs some sleep!!)

We usually use a small box fan pointed at the wall. I've also heard people use an iPod with a white noise track and play it on repeat. For me the iPod never worked because each time the "song" came to an end there would be a three second silence before it repeated the song. That abrupt silence would wake my son every time.

The Marpac Sleepmate gets excellent reviews and several of us on the board have them and love them! I have two (one in my room and one in DS2's room) and my mom even bought one for herself. It's just continuous white noise, no fluff sounds! I recommend them to all my friends and doula clients. I even bring ours with us when we travel.

We have this one.

You can use a timer or not at all. It runs continuously unless you activate the timer.

The Marpac 980A will do that. It's either on or off, and you can adjust the amount/tone of the sound.

:yeahthat: We have Marpac machines in each of the kids' rooms and they are awesome! There is no cycle, it's on until you turn it off in the morning. They are totally worth the $$.

We have the Marpec. The sound is like a fan - mechanical and consistent. Or, maybe just get a big box fan for a similar effect. We went with Marpec because fans don't make sense in New England seasonally plus there's no good babyproof place for one in our nursery.

We've had this for about 2 years and it works great, even though DD1 likes to play with it.

We have an air purifier in our room that makes enough of a buzz that it is our "white noise"

Honeywell HEPA air purifiers work for us.

We have 3 Marpacs and love all of them. We take one on every trip we take as well.

We used a pure white noise CD. Not from this website (Ebay if I recall....it was a longtime ago) but you can read about them here. We used a CD player then but now I'd do iPod dock. http://www.purewhitenoise.com/

We have the same one and just leave it on all night.

I just bought this one http://www.amazon.com/Sound-Oasis-S-650-01-Therapy-System/dp/B002WGHKQW/ref=sr_1_18?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1309108182&sr=1-18 for my 5 year old's room. LOVE it so far. She has a habit of getting up in the middle of the night for various reasons and coming to our room. I take her back to her room, and usually that wakes me up in the process. Bad nights all around.

So far with this machine, she has been sleeping through the night. We've only had it for a few days so far. I almost went with another one, but I really wanted the Spa sound card, which only works with this machine (the 650 model, not the 550 model). She's used to going to sleep to music CDs, so I didn't think normal night noises, white noise, etc would do the trick. The Spa Retreat sound card is AWESOME! When it came, I turned it on and laid down in her bed to check the loudness. I ended up falling asleep in her bed!!!

There are several reviews who give it low ratings because of how you have to set the time. there's only one button, and you have to cycle through to get to the time. But I don't use this machine for a clock as she has 2 other clocks in her room. So that wasn't important to me. I just needed to be able to run this continuously, and this does the trick!!

Another vote for Marpac! We have two and love them. They are also invaluable for travel. They do a great job of taking care of noisy hotel rooms.

We have this one by Graco:
http://www.amazon.com/Graco-Sweet-Slumber-Sound-Machine/dp/B001GQ2P78/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1309108877&sr=1-1

You can either do an hour-time limit or continuous. There are several different "white" noises to choose from, you have lullaby music and you can hook up your ipod. We've had for almost 9 months now, no complaints whatsoever. I've been extremely happy with it!

Our baby used the sleep sheep on the wave setting and would aslo wake up when it turned off. We just downloaded a wave sound off itunes onto an old ipod we werent using and put it on repeat. When we travel we bring a little travel speaker set, works wonderfully. And it cost us 99 cents.

we had a homedics one briefly and while it might not matter to a kid i could hear the loop in the nature sounds and it drove me nuts. ended up liking a box fan or a radio set to static better. box fan better in warm weather. static stations can on occasion pick up EMS transmissions, though, so be aware! LOL I nearly wet the bed when I had some paramedic yelling in my ear one morning that they were gonna need a stair chair.
